I have a 1987 Ranger with 2.9 and 5 speed tranny and there is no power in third gear. I have put new plugs in it changed the oil put in a multi spark discharger and a new Fuel filter and i was woundering if any one has any hints or tips to get it back running right.
It runs fine through 1st and 2nd then it just loses most power it still gains speed just varry and there is no smoke that i can see

Give more info. Like what motor, trans. Also what dose it do. dose it ever run fine. also what kind of fuel pressure are you getting when it runs crappy.

well, hes runing a 2.9 judging by the info on the side lol. Lets assume that hes got a 5spd and hasnt checked anything yet lol. Not all ppl know what to check first. sooooo. Get your self a 0-70 lb pressure gauge. If you ask at a parts store you can usualy find a efi fuel pressure tester. The hoses on them arnt veary long tho. I had to cut and splice in an extra 2ft so i could get the gauge out where i could see it while driving. Once you get it all riged up go for a spin. DO it somwhere where there is no traffic because you will be watching a gauge as well as the road. Ive been told its best to put he engine under a good load while testing to get a clear idea of what the fpr is doing. When you say it has no power, does it misfire, bog down? notice any black or white smoke coming from the exaust? Is it harder on fuel now?
