84 ford ranger 2.3 things I’ve done to it is a coil. ignition control box pick up coil what should I check next thanks

Pull the distributor cap off and make sure the rotor turns inside when the engine is cranked over.

Do you have a TFI spark system or DuraSpark?

How are you testing for spark?
Spray fuel down carb and crank engine(50/50 test)?
OR
Spark tester on a spark plug wire?

50/50 test is most reliable

Hot wire coil + terminal to battery Positive
See if it fires up
Ignition switch has TWO 12volt pathways to spark system
One path has 12v with key on
The Other path sends 12v with key turned to START
And they are sometime not connected
So you will see 12v with key on but it will be 0volts when cranking engine over
Hot wire tests for that

I got a spark plug on number one spark plug wire grounded out on the motor I replaced the mechanical fuel pump it’s getting fuel

TFI system will have a rectangle grey plastic piece on the distributor with a bunch of wires coming out of it. Durasapark II system will have a decent sized silver box mounted on the inner fender under the hood, with 3 wires running from it to the distributor.

Also the Duraspark II will have a vacuum line going to the distributor, the TFI will not have a vacuum line to the distributor.

What years can I replace mine with
What are you replacing? You said you replaced the ignition box, the pickup coil and the ignition coil.

Do you have a meter or testlight? Do you have 12v on the coil + wire when cranking?

TFI has the square coil, Duraspark II has the round coil. They both work the same though and both need voltage to work.

Any helpful hints for the next guy reading this thread?

The previous owner had soldered the +side of the coil wire not very good and it was not making good contact it was showing hot on a test light but when u crank it over it would loose its power
