No rear end Expo.

And the 4 speed auto in the explorer is a rock solid unit behind the 5.0.

I have one behind the 5.4 in my F-150, it’s a good trans... depending on care of course. The locked up 5.0 doesn’t really bode well for being well taken care of.

The AWD set up is all new to me. The transfer case and cv axles all seem ol. No wet spots or dripping from anywhere. Neet to get a column too. The JY are full of these so that shouldn't be too big of a deal. Just time and money.

Agreed. But on the bright side, i technically have eveything i need to get it wired up and ready without going to the JY. The front end is all there, except ps spindle. I can remove things at my own leisure. I'm trying to stay positive about it. I knew it wouldn't be a smooth journey.

Yeah, I was just speaking about the transmission.

Does anybody know where the brain for this thing woud be. I wanna start there until i can get the motor out. I know about the thing in the engine bay, but i read something about "behind the dash", is that the same thing?
The PATS module is behind the passenger's side airbag. If you have the keys from the Explorer & steering column, you wouldn't need to reprogram/delete PATS.
Remember to take the lock cylinders from the Expo too and then you can use 1 key for the Ranger.

Is there not a way to put the Explorer's PATS module on his existing column? Much easier to retain his current lock cylinders.

Ranger850:

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but the truck you are upgrading is an '01 Ranger Edge.

PATS:
Assuming the truck above, you open the glove compartment, undo the ?2? nuts holding the airbag in place, pull out, disconnecting airbag wires. Then the PATs module is right there, unbolt disconnect and tape to the 3.0 ECM.

Ignition tumbler:
Put key in ignition switch, push fuller 807 phillips screwdriver in the secret hole on bottom of steering column and push in the lock. Turn key and presto, the tumbler falls out in your hand.

Door cylinders:
Pull the black tab that holds lock cylinder in place at back edge of door out. Pull lock cylinder out of door (needs a little manipulation to pull off lock wire). Repeat for door on other side.

Repeat same process to get the ones from the Explorer.

Reverse to reinstall:
Insert the Ignition tumbler in Ranger column, turn to off and tumbler locks in column, remove key and put in safe place. Attach the PATS module in the dash, bolt up, drop airbag module back in, bolt up, close glove box. If you are really good, you can reattach the door cylinder to the lock wire without having it fall inside the door*. With wire attached, push door cylinder into door and push tab back in. Repeat for door on other side.

*If you lose the wire, you have to remove the door panel to access. But then you were planning on upgrading the door speakers anyways, so you intended to remove the panels anyways. ;missingteeth;

Enjoy tall cool one.

Sorry, when I said PATS module up above, I actually meant the receiver near the key.

I knew what you were referring to, and if it was pre-99, I would go that way. But Ranger850 has a '01, so it can be set up like Ford did it at the factory. (He would already have the receive at the ignition cylinder)

If all the equipment is in place, which pieces are different between the two versions of PATS so he could just use Forscan and retain his current keys? Or is that even possible with the version difference?

I've never tried Fordscan to retain the existing key; its been cheaper for me to swap the module, the cylinder and the tumblers.

Gotcha. I've only done the '99 to '99 swap so the PATS hardware was identical. Plugged in the Explorer's ECM and PATS module, fired up Forscan and imported my existing keys. No other hardware changes at all. Maybe 10-20 minutes of the software doing its thing, but I didn't have to be involved at that point.

Sorry to bust all this info up. But the expo has no dash or column in it.? Just wires. And pedals. I was hoping to keep as much Ranger as possible, but i will have to get a column from another expo/mounty.

Removed the bumpers. Front was ruined from the transport but the rear is good. Also removed the leaf springs and brackets. The expo leafs mount in line with the frame ( or under it ) while the Ranger leafs mount to the outside of the frame. Unfortanately, the PS main leaf was broke when i got it.

The expo leafs seem to be thicker but both vehicles have a 4 leaf pack. The rear sway bar was already gone, but I did get the links and compared them to my Rangers. They're a little thicker and seem to be bent the opposite way.
Here is a shot of both rear shackles.

It's interesting to see the little changes between the models. My Ranger is '01 & the Expo is '00. The Expo is way more complex underneath.
