No More Spark Plugs

Thats pretty slick, but sounds stupid expensive...

definitely would love this.

so i would assume that these lasers would last for years? would you still stick with the same amount as spark plugs? i'm thinking since they want equal burn of all gas that you would put in as many as hundreds or thousands depending on their size.

The first thing that popped into my head was.... What the hell are people going to do with LASER spark plugs? lol. I can see some redneck taking his engine apart and creating some kind of laser gun, lmao

Great! more stuff you can't repair with a hammer and roll of bailing wire.

Or frigging duct-tape. Leave it to those crazy Brits. The first car I ever had was a '67 MGB - Lucas electrics (you know him - the prince of darkness.) The motto was "don't go far, and don't go at night."

What about diesel engines? They don't use spark plugs. That's pretty cool, huh? Maybe Ford should invest in developing diesel engines that could be brought stateside...

Dude, I'll get right on it. Just send me a working set. :icon_welder:

I wonder how long it would be before the laser melted through the piston head if it was aimed through the center? What about engine per-ignition? Preignition can crack a spark plug, what about the lens?

Before I would trust laser ignition, I want to see it in 2000 different cars for 100000 miles each.

they have some pretty nice ones over across the pond in europe. i think the main problem with bringing them here is that a lot of people think of diesels as big huge dirty truck motors and dont realize the potential of them

Our stiffer emissions testing which keeps the offerings low in anything lighter than a 3/4 ton kinda puts a crimp on them too.

Personally for a dd, I would rather have a gas burner.

Boy, see a lot of mis-conseptions on the use of lasers. They have used lasers for years for delicate eye and blood vein surgery, not like they are burning a hole thru the back of the person. I just passed this along to show what is in the works, don't kill the messenger! Things are changing.

Alright, we got the frickin' lasers, now where's the sharks?!?!?!

Well i know my big diesel is dirty! :D It practically dumps black smoke everywhere. But it gets around 20 -22 highway pretty much all the time towing or not.

I agree, diesels always seem to be a drag if you drive them everyday, even the jettas and stuff. Don't know why but i like a gasser for DDing.

This lazer thing seems pretty cool to me, more complicated and expensive but cool none the less.
