And another thing...
Today I took a ride through the nearby national forest and stopped at one point and turned off the traction control, then put it in Drive and punched it.
I got two equal, very defined , six foot claw marks where it dug into the gravel and sandy soil on take off.
The head scratcher for me on this is the open axle code, which would lead me to believe I should see only one tire mark as a result of it breaking traction on take-off.
But I got traction on both sides. Is there some difference in the T/C model rear ends that equates to a L/S?
Next, the other part of this so-called "safety package" (I.e., gubbermint mandated throttle-minder and fun-killer) is the anti-roll and anti-slide features, which means the computer throws on the brakes if it senses the vehicle losing it in a curve.
Well .. the blasted thing works, and on a half-dozen gravelly curves it kicked in and scrubbed off speed for me. The light on the dash would flash, and after a while I could tell that it was independently applying a bit of brake to whichever wheel the computer deemed critical.
If you have entertained any fantasies of power sliding your Ranger through a curve and you have T/C, forget it it.
Realistically, I can live with the thing as is but I still prefer to be in control of all that myself.
I've got to think that somewhere a conniving, geekly Ranger owner has figured a get around that will allow permanently disabling the T/C stuff without messing up the ABS, but until I find that I've no choice but to live with it.
In the meanwhile if any of you happen on this thread and have an answer to the L/S question as an aftermarket fix please post or PM and let me know. I'll tuck the info away into my ever changing Swiss cheese body of knowledge.
Thank in advance -
