No ignition advance

Its a 93. When i increase the throttle the timing wont advance when monitored with a timing light. When i removed the spout connector the idle dropped but that was it. Have any ideas on what would cause this? Thanks.

Sounds like it is stuck in timing-check mode. The advance is normally controlled by the computer, but there's a connectors on the ignition module you unplug to disable the advance, so you can set the timing without interference. It should be locked-in at 10º BTDC when it's in timing-set mode.

The connector just looks like a plastic plug, it's just a dressed-up jumper connecting the 2 wires in the ignition connector together. Google image search "timing set spout" or something similar to get what I'm talking about
