Had a cool day and turned the heat dial to full warm and no hot air, a/c works, vents all change fine with the switch but the heat control does not provide heat when all the way in the red. Heater lines are warm by heater core, heat control does not feel any different but still no warm air, heater fan does blow air on all the positions just not warm or hot. Did have to replace the battery yesterday but Don,t see that causing this. Guessing this is the blend door failure? Any best guesses are appreciated.

Thanks for the info Bird, took the actuator out and looked inside for damage but everything seems to be ok, no broken gears, the drive on the actuator does not move with the key on when operating the heat control valve so I am going to have a look at the control panel heat switch first and see if there may be problem there. Don,t know if it makes a difference but my truck is a 2009.

You might also inspect all of your tiny little vacuum lines that run from the intake to inside the cab on the passenger side by the heater/AC plenum.

I'm not real familiar with 2009 model year stuff, but if it's anything like the earlier models, you may have a broken or disconnected vacuum line that runs to a coolant valve that shuts off flow to the heater core.

The blend door motors are notorious for dying in that era. Just because it "looks ok" doesn't mean its functioning. Use a dmm to test for power at the connector. If your getting power when switching then you can confirm the motor is burnt out. Or just replace it... they are only about 15 bucks.

But bird has a good point as well, 09's had the heater core valve... make sure that is opening first. You can just manually pull it open or have someone watch it while you switch from ac to heat. If you confirm it's open and flowing Its almost guaranteed to be the blend door motor.

Thanks for all that info guys, going to check vac lines and power in the plug in the next couple of days and report what I find, guessing it,s the blend door motor, I will report what I find.

Recently went through this on my '07 - except mine was stuck on hot. Same, the actuator "looked fine" but it was just not working. If you want to double check your control panel is working, i've posted a link to the diagnostic sheet for Fords (not sure it's all 100% for Rangers) but it has the details of what pins to check in the actuator connector for voltage in a previous thread.

Quick update, removed the actuator and tested the motor and it would not move with power so I took the back of the motor off to find the brushes twisted and not making contact, ordered a new actuator so should have it working again tomorrow.

no heat.... just had to laugh at that, its been nearly 90 the last 2 days here in ohio. Id love some canada weather about now. esp after 2 days of hand digging up septic tile in the backyard. yuk! in so many ways....

Working again with new blend door actuator (sure wasn't, no15.00, paid 70.00 ca, transport to a colder climate must cost more), old actuator didn't,t have any broken gears, just the brushes on the electric motor breaking off, did do a limited search for just the motor and no luck, figures, little electric motor is not hard to take out and put back in. Anyway guys thanks for the help, hope you all live long and prosper, wait, living longer= more taxes to pay, if you prosper= more taxes to pay, gonna have to use a different way of saying thanks.

Glad you got it fixed! Sucks on the price though... i did mine a couple years ago and know I paid less than 20 bucks online.
