So yesterday I disconnected the transmission line on the top driver side of my radiator and to my surprise I didn't see any traces of trans fluid. I stuck a q tip into the trans line and there was no residue of trans fluid on it. Is there some kind of valve that could have gone bad? Or do I need a transmission flush?

The top line will lose fluid to gravity. Since trans fluid is pretty thin it is possible that the line could be clean and dry naturally.

Stick the open line in a bucket and start the engine. See what happens.

I will give that try. Would it be normal for the lines that run under the engine from the trans to be cool to the touch after a 30+ mile trip after sitting for 30 minutes or so?

I would think that the lines would cool pretty quick if gravity is pull the fluid out of them (or may even with fluid, they are pretty thin). Did you try the start it and see if fluid comes out test?

That trans doesn't get that hot. "Operating temp" as given for checking the fluid level is only 80 degrees.
