hey i was woundering if anyone on here has a Newfoundland. i just want some comints on what you think of them i going to be getting one and i was just see what people think

isn't that a place....

i have never owned one but have had many interactions with them. i have found they are big in the slobber department, some what protective, loyal and tend to think they are lap dogs in some cases. they are BIG so if not trained to some extent pose a risk not because they are dangerous but because of there HUGE size. the risk is mostly with a dog that is not familiar with children, they can knock a 5 year old or younger over like a human knocks over a glass of water.

They are a great dog! loyal and protective of the family. they love water. and train easy. As a large breed, they need room to run and play.

thanks for the help cant wait to get one

I grew up with a black lab-newfie mix. He was a big dog, but couldnt hurt a fly. Best dog I have ever had or been around. I miss my puppy. Oh and he lived to be 13. So life expectancy is good for a dog of its size.

I've got a story about a Newfie that I've just got to share!

Some friends of ours had a Newfie and their youngest son was just crawling. They lived on a fairly busy street with a speed limit of 45 mph that most ignored (went faster). The dog would lay in the shade & watch Doug (the baby). When he got about 4 ft from the road, the dog would get up, walk over to where the baby was, grab the back of his diaper, and drag him back to the front of the house. This cycle could repeat all day!

Great dogs!
