My Current truck a 08 Ford Ranger served me very well carried around a few motorcycle project bikes and was more than capable of general run around and hauling my Mountain bikes to different trails. It did everything i asked and did so with acceptable fuel milage averaging 17-18mpg with a best of 24mpg. But as much as i love Ford rangers (i have owned three of em) i came to the point were i desired having a bit more seating capacity and the ability to tow a bit more (maybe a toy hauling camper in the future).

So i went truck shopping and decided on my new beast a 2011 Ford F150 Crew Cab 4x4 XTR with the 3.5L Eco Boost V6. That engine is a jewel. 365hp and 420lbs/tq at 2500rpm all while calling for the same kinda of milages my ranger achived if not better. Being a previous owner of a HEAVILY modified F250 with a 7.3L V8 turbo diesel (not a powerstroke) i can assure you this thing pulls like a Diesel only it dont run out of breath in the upper end.

I pick mine up tomorrow so many more pics will come then but i can hardly wait. The truck has more gadets and flash than is normal for me and its ALOT more money than i have EVER spent on a Cage before. But well its the perfect rig for my intentions and allows for growth in the future, And since i have the morgage and all other bills WELL within budget figured a nicer than normal car for me would be a nice change. Now to just figure out all those damn buttons .

I did not pay any were near sticker for it but its still one damn expensive cage

And for shits and giggles a few of the Little Red Ranger i will miss so much shes done me well. I only hope the F150 turns out to be as good a truck.

Here she hauling home a friends bike project last winter

Here she is doing hard labour last year at work when one of the trucks got stuck under a trailer. Prolly should have videoed it for a Built Ford Tuff commercial.

$47,000 for a V6 F-150, holy hell! I would have spent 2 grand more and got a 6.2 liter raptor...... anyways, Awesome man I like the new F-150s. I rode in Jims while he was pulling my car on a trailer nice ride, nice truck for sure. Nice upgrade.

Your 7.3 was highly modified? With what, a straight pipe? Highly modified to me means an injector pump and injectors from a shop that builds pulling trucks and the turbo off of a semi.

I like that 3.5 Eco boost. I watched Ford's video on their test, and it does look like a great engine, but that 5.7 hemi was catching up fast on the hill climb. That's why the ended it at 3.5 miles and not 3.6, I reckon. The Ecoboost had a 12 second advantage in the 0-60 and won at 3.5 miles with a 3 second margin. I guess, for similar reasons, they chose not to line it up against the 6.2 Silverado and chose the underwhelming 5.3 instead.

Very nice, I wonder what fuel mileage it will get in the real world.

The 6.2 isn't that common in a half ton, the majority are a smaller engine.

Ford has its own 6.2 for people that want to brag about a big engine they can't utilize in a half ton.

I haven't watched the movies about it but I have heard for what it is, the Ecoboost is a beast.

Well actually the 7.3 had a home built aluminum true cold air intake with K&N filter, Fuel advanced on the injection pump with all new lines and injectors. Scratch built 3-inch exhaust with magnaflow muffler (all mandrel bent and welded no clamps. And a BUILT Ford E40D auto with a MUCH lower stall TQ converter (trans work done at local shop we used to build the trans for our buses). So sure maybe not a extream custom motor but did not know i needed your approval to consider my many hrs tinkering in the garage alot or a little:icon_thumby:. I am a LICENSED truck and Coach Diesel tech for a living (work for a large leasing company). I KNOW my way around all kinda Diesels. IN fact in my current shop i am the Cat and Detroit specialist again (I recently decided to go back to the floor giving up my position as a Foreman as i missed working on the stuff).

That being said new trucks awesome loving the little Ecoboost. I am sure those tourture tests are in some way stacked in the favour of the Ecoboost but the fact of the matter is i dont care lol. This thing HAULS REAR end (trust me i had my sister with me and she has a rather large............... well you get the point:icon_rofl:).

But heres some more pics now that she is home

Wow!! That's a sweet ride! I have watched ALOT of vids on the ecoboost because the amount of power they are claiming from a v6 stunned me at first. But the engine seems to be really powerful while building alot of torque at lower RPM's. Just curious since it's a twin turbo setup can you hear them whistlin' while your driving?? Just curious as I love the sounds of a turbo on my Powerstroke

yes you can:icon_thumby:

they are not too loud but you can hear them.

Oh, and sweet truck. My dad bought an '11 F150 a couple months ago. His is a black Supercrew with the 5.0L. I have not driven it but ridden in it several times and it is a nice truck. I would really like to drive it and one with the Ecoboost.

Nice truck!! it even has a dancing pole :woot:

That's how you know it's a man's truck. The pole keeps the women out of the cab and in the bed where they belong. :icon_rofl:

EDIT: Please no one take offense to this, it's just a joke.

You don't. But you decided to compare the power of your 7.3 to this truck, and nothing you did to the 7.3 increases power. That 3.5 Ecoboost will kick the crap out of my diesel, and I have the screw completely out of my injection pump--it's at full volume. Your 7.3, or my 6.2, could destroy that 3.5 if it were actually "highly modified". The 3.5 Ecoboost is great by itself--you don't need to trash something else to compare it. An Holset HX50 and an injection pump from CDS and these old engines can see 500hp and 1,000ft#.

I like the EcoBoost 3.5 a lot. It threatens diesel engines--temporarily. Diesel is cheaper to make as it is less refined. It should be cheaper because it is easier to make. Problem is, it is taxed in the US 1/3 higher than gasoline. It doesn't get a fair shake. In the EU, it's taxed less than petrol.

The thing about the EcoBoost, it levels the playing field. Diesle is crude and makes soot. Both are direct injected and can ignore detonation. Diesel has more energy per unit volume because it is heavier, fuel is sold by volume. To make it even, fuel should be sold by unit weight, as it is in aircraft. Then maybe diesel has no advantage.

I don't know. I would like one of those F150s, and would replace my truck with it, but not for that money.

By the way, I think the Canadian dollar is now worth more than the US dollar. A $47,000 Canadian dollar might be a $50,000 US dollar. Or maybe a $100,000 US dollar. I don't know the exchange rate.

Approx $48,100 US for $47k Canadian, but who ever pays sticker price? It's a 35k truck, and not a bad one at that. I like my ranger, and I like the direction Ford is going with the F150's but I'd be into a new Chevy long before a Ford.... thats just me.

Nice truck TinyBear!
