New tools you've bought recently?

This arrived last week. I’m always a a little nervous about Vevor and knockoff junk but they did good here.

A while back I bought a 17”, 16 speed drill press from Harbor Freight and it turned out to be a lemon for drilling metal. The quill had a ton of runout that couldn’t be adjusted out and the column was so thin that under pressure when drilling, the head would flex upwards about 1/4”. Fine for wood… not metal. I scored a nice Porter Cable from the pawn shop that is a lot more stout but it didn’t have a rotating table so I had to upgrade my vise too.

What do they do? Or how are they used?

they go on the lead screws and mount to the table of a mill. thread is 15/16" x 10 tpi in ACME.
tightening the slot jams the threads together and takes the play/backlash out of the joint.

I purchased a Diehard battery charger/maintainer at a closing Carquest for $30.

Milwaukee Sawzall, just like the other (new) one, stops working at half throttle after 12 seconds every time. All of these do that. Loaded or not. With multiple batteries. With & without a blade even. The customer service is stumped, like they care at all....

I have been using silverware drawer organizers for a while and can give my recommendation.



A spare one or two is excellent for holding bolts small parts when you have your car apart, as well.

The drawers were made from old oil cans, from when oil came in cans!

I put the new check valve in my new big air compressor on Monday and cycled the compressor once until the switch turned off then unplugged it... switch kicked out around 150psi and it's still sitting at like 135psi so I think we have a winner!

Bought myself a front wheel drive bearing service kit. Will be replacing the front bearings in my new to me 2011 Ford Escape.

Bought this set of reamers off of ebucks. Not cheap but it is a full set. Many look to have never been used. As a kid I watched my Dad ream out those bronze bushings back when pickup trucks all had king pins before ball joints. Hope these work on plastic as well as bronze. Seems like something always needs a bit more clearance.

I bought the new press brake deal that Harbor Freight just came out with in the last day or two. Conveniently they also sent me a $25 off $100+ so it came out to $143 after tax. I had sort of been in the market for the Swag version, and I am sure it's better, but for the money this is a better buy for me with how infrequently I will probably use it.

It works really well on my 20 ton press. It's advertised to bend 3/8" mild steel and I don't think I have any of that but it worked great for 1/4".

Couple notes:

#1 they show it right on the press cross bars... I would not do that for thicker materials. It should go on top of arbor plates. The base of this tool is only 1/2", I think if you're bending 1/4 or thicker there is a chance you will bend the base. There are bolt heads and nuts that protrude down past the base, I had to drill holes in my arbor plates for clearance.

I think it literally came out maybe two days ago. I check their New Tools section once a week or so and it wasn’t there earlier this week.

That's badass. I'd have no idea how to make use of it, but very cool. Bending 1/4in is no joke.

They had one, they didn't know they had them, took a while to find Got that, a 5 pack of 14" cutoff wheels ($15 on clearance) and a wire brush for the surface finishing deal which I'm hoping will deal with rust as good or better than the black one I've worn out... will try that out tonight or tomorrow when I plasma cut out a mounting plate for my arbor press to make a post to mount in my floor receivers...
