New tools you've bought recently?

I grabbed a Pipe Vise Micro-Mini and Micro 5. They aren't cheap. But, I caught a good Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale.

One of my customer's facilities techs let me borrow them when I was working on something some time ago and I decided I needed to have a couple for myself. I was put off by the price, but when that sale hit I decided to place an order.

I've had them a week and they're getting use. I keep them in my pocket and seem to find use for them every single day.

Early Christmas present from my brother arrive today: an inflatable motorcycle paint booth. Will be used for painting smaller parts and my now ever increasing herd of wheel horse garden tractors. I'm pretty excited about this. Check them out on Amazon, like 250-300$

Ok, those paying attention might know a thing or two about me and auctions...

Anywho, I limited myself, I could have bought WAY more for very little extra money... so I went in the morning and they went with the small stuff first and I got a Harbor Freight abrasive metal chop saw for $15, worked and almost new shape... then a Thermal Dynamics Pak 50 plasma cutter (in they say non working condition) for $50 on a gamble and a 60 gallon air compressor with a bad pump for $55. Then I went back home and met with a contractor buddy that I'm going to pick up some lumber from then went back since my brother talked me into coming back... Anywho after that ended up with a better and in decent looking condition 60 gallon 20A motor compressor for $10 (still on the factory pallet but has been used).

I also got some 1/8" steel plate and some expanded metal and other stuff for super cheap, oh and 3 fire extinguishers for $4... All in all I only spent like $185 and even if I only get one of those compressors working it's worth it...

How do you find your auctions?

How do you find your auctions?
This one from my brother but I get a crapload of emails from HIbid and Proxybid... This particular auction is only the second I've been to from this auctioneer and it is one of the very few in person only auctions around anymore... they aren't very common... If you find local auctioneers and get on their mail list or check their website it's a good way to find them but with the algorithm I see them on the facebooks too...

It did NOT hurt that it rained today and many people left around the time I did the first time... It was only about 20 minutes away from my house...

I get to go back over tomorrow to get the rest since my brother got a tractor with forklift booms grafted on the front AND back of it, he only spent $2600 on that and the other random stuff he got... The F350 and trailer will have a full load most likely...

The first compressor I bought I pulled the head tonight and the cylinder walls had some rust on them which is why it was hard to turn over... a head gasket set was only $11 and I'll have it next Saturday... in the mean time I'll try to hook it up to power and see if the motor works, chances are it might just be a start capacitor on that... they didn't know if it was the motor or compressor but it looks like there was belt debris on the compressor pulley (belt missing) so I might be able to fix it for $11... but someone took off the pressure switch and regulator and stuff... Might be able to mix this into the barter area of the contractor I talked to today, I'm sure I won't have trouble unloading a 60 gallon air compressor that works once I get it there... even if I end up with $100 in it I can't go backward...

I'm building up to the idea that I'm gonna learn how to paint, so I am adding things to my toolbox to meet that goal:

Finally got my own timing light. I won't have to borrow dads anymore, very awesome to be able to set the timing where I need it because I can barely see the crank pulley at all with all the stuff I have under the hood (front belt drive was supposed to have a sensor there). It will be very nice to have to dial in timing and adjust the carb if I ever get the thing into the mountains as well.

I also got a new tackle box... but not for fishing

I got beyond sick of keeping track of all my electrical stuff. Pliers/crimpers were in a bag, connectors were in one organizer tray, fuses were in another, heat shrink in yet another, soldering gun was in a drawer, solder was on a nail in the wall, multimeter and remote starter was in a drawer etc.

It has a trap door to access the side compartment without opening the whole lid.

Blind bearing/bushing puller set , got it to change out leaking seal & cv shaft bushing on my escape, slide hammer needs to weigh more, its a 5# and 10# would work better. I ended up using a sawzall to partially cut through bushing so it could come out. Also bought a driver set, basically just a bunch of round parts that go on a handle to drive a item in to a case bore.

What do they do? Or how are they used?
One use I know of is on a threaded stop rod. For example on a drill press, you normally have a threaded rod with nuts that you can set the depth of the hole you drill. It's good to help you prevent going too deep and it's useful for repeated identical holes. The half-nut thingies can be slipped over the threaded rod at the right location and locked in place without having to spin a pair of nuts 2 or 3 inches down the rod with your finger. Similarly, it is very quick and easy to remove.
