new to this site got few questions

i just picked up a 88 ranger 2.9 with the m5 4x4 with 3 inch body lift and 31 11.50 tire for $150 the clears chippin up and som rot on the rear passenger fender interiors like new n came with alot of new parts. guy couldnt get it runnin so i found out it was the timing so i got it to start have to fix a break line and put a new slave cylender here are my questions

1. with a 2.9 is it 10 or 12 degrees btdc? some places say 10 others say 12
2. what tcase would be in this truck


i was thinkin on gettin it legal and run this for my on/offroad truck
give it a cheap rattle can paint job

It depends on what you want to do. It doesn't need to be perfect, 10 is the factor spec. People bump up timing to get a little better performance, but I doubt you will hardly notice. You can bump the timing as high as you want as long as it's not pinging. 12 is a little more advanced, but usually safe to set there.
