New Seat

ah looks kinda pink to me haha, damn i guess i may as well try bolstering my seats not like i can ruin them that much...right?

Pleats are?

A pleat (older plait) is a type of fold formed by doubling fabric back upon itself and securing it in place.

Pleats - in my seat, they are the "folds" in the black center sections.

So how hard is it to sew your own seat fabric then? I kinda want to learn how.

Well - since this is my first - I learned a lot. I cut to the template, but sewed the edges together, not back a 1/4" like the original - that is why it looks loose. The original foam was deteriorated a bit and I just added some foam to it. This also led to a lumpy look, tighter covers would have made it look better. The piping (the thin piece that sticks out between pieces) is a pain to get even and straight.

So I just jumped right in and began doing it - no lessons, but I did do a little research on-line about sewing and got some great help from a site called "Instructables" great how-to's.

Good Luck

thats a good job for a first time, i have not done a car seat yet but its more complicated than furniture where you can just pull and staple the hell out of it till its smooth. I think you did a great job but... for the people that want to do this for the first time, first off dont steal your moms sowing machine unless you know for a fact it can handle stiff fabric like some vinyls i have seen people jack up one doing fabric it cant handle, also piping is a pain in the ass, you did good on yours but if you have not done it before at all i would not try to pipe it, also if i remember from my last auto project they make a special hog hook pliers thing that will save you from busting the crap out of your hands being cheap and using regular pliers... trust me i was cheep and it hurt bad :)

nice seat covers.. i wanna try this on mine.. but am kinda worried! lol..

and you had a shop in memphis? what shop? lol.. im almost in memphis.
