new pistol

I'm another one looking for a pistol, Wis is so close to having the CC law passed. Not really looking for a large cal and have enough 30 cal. Friend has a 380 Ruger he likes but haven't really started looking yet.

Mac,i found a milsurp czak p-64 in 9x18 makarov at a gunshow,it's a clone of walthers ppk, well built in poland and issued to military/police. These little guns have very little wear, accurate as hell and very potent. They can be had for around $175,and have the manufacture date stamped on them. Ammo, russian bear is anywhere from 8 to 10 dollars for 50 rounds,12 for hollow points. There is a forum online, google p-64,i like mine a lot and it rides in work truck.:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

Thanks Skippy, never really had a pistol other than my bro-in-laws Colt Woodsman that he just got back. Shot a lot of the big stuff, not sure if any one here even know what a M1919A! is all the way up to the 3.5". The military has so many neat weapons today.

Something to watch for, it is easy to blow off a gun like that as a cheap Saturday night special without researching every make and model out there.

One of the most facinating things for me about being into guns is researching the different ones.

Walther comparison:

Edit, I am out:

Ergonomics: Both of these pistols feel relatively good in the hand, with a slight edge being given to the P-64 for overall "feel" when picked up and pointed. But one should keep in mid that neither pistol is suitable for someone with very large hands. One of the shooters that fired the Walther, with particularly large hands, wound up with two bloody groves in the web of his hand from the slide blowing back, and never again picked it up.

Colt Woodsman are fine little pistols and quite valuable now days.

Fair warning about the Walther PP/PPK/PPK-s series... That slide is mighty close to the web of your thumb and will bite you in a big way if your grip is a bit high! I had a PP in 32 auto and a PPK-S in 380. Neither really liked to digest hollow point ammo. The PP absolutely refused to fire more than a single round at a time with HP's and the PPK-s was unreliable at best. Never a hiccup with ball ammo out if either. Fine little pistols and very concealable. A bit heavy for their size by today's standards but very well built.

Absolutely correct, woodsman pistols are collectable and dandy little guns. Auto pistols can and will bite if not held correctly,i was fortunate to learn that early in life at someone elses expense (hi Russ) took 6 sutures to close him up,and a lot of scrubbing to get the blood out of my camaro.

My next gun is a Commander,i'm 0 for 3 in my quest, last one on the counter being purchased when i came in w/the money. This is it....

Dang the bad luck.
