I am installing an engine out of a b2 that has 78K miles... Thats what the Odometer says, but the interior says differnt. im gunna say 178 or 278K miles. but its a GOOD engine. While I have the engine out should I replace the oil pump?? I have a NEW Hi-Vol oil pump and a New standard Oil Pump. What do you all suggest???

Chaz.

I would reccomend that if you can stand the cost that you replace the following: water pump, oil pump(high Volume), and all the gaskets that you can stand to replace. if you suspect that many miles and your there any ways I would check the rod and crank bearings considering that the engine is out. I would also consider changing the head gaskets and check the heads for cracks (I would do all of this if it where mine and i suspected that many miles)

If I thought an engine had 278,000 miles on it; I would tear it down and put in an overhaul kit before installation. Get the heads checked for cracks while you are at it.

If funds are tight, (and who doesn't have that problem now?) do what you can afford to do.

Nothing sucks worse than redoing work the next week, when you knew you should have done it right the first time.

Well i have had a compression check and oil pressure check and the heads are not cracked, the shop was quite empressed with the engine..... and yeah of corse funds are tight., hehe

This. If you have the pump, you might as well do it. Personally, I'd do the pump and do a compression test. A waterpump is easily accessible if you can't afford it right now.:icon_thumby:

I agree to all the above. At the very least change over to the HV oil pump. Oh and while the motor is out of the way dont forget your trans.
