Saw a vid on you tube the other day about some hapless fellows AROUND HERE that were wheelin' in an area they weren't supposed to and they were ambushed by some well meaning vigalantes that spotlighted them forced them from their rigs and buttstroked them to the face .Now I am not debating the off limits wheelin only the assualt after they were stopped-If i am asked or told or screamed at to move on and GET THE HECK OUTTA HERE ! THATS COOL BUT IF PEOPLE ARE GETTIN BEATIN AND SHOT AT we are at a new level. Now I know all you haters are gonna give me hell cause its only a P22 .22LR 10 shot semi auto but I tried a .357 and several 9mm but they were too loud and I hit nothing but with the P22 I put all 10 rounds in the target at 10 meters and the shot group was tight -and the rounds are only .795 cents apiece $7.95 per 100 CCI MINI MAG vs. .35 cents or .49 cents for 9mm and .38 respectivly. So now I am officially a gun nut :icon_rofl:

I don't know about your states laws but when it comes to tresspassing here if the land owner feels that his life or his property is threatenned he can legally use lethal force against you. Now if you bring your own gun you're almost guaranteed to be shot.

So... You're gonna carry a gun when on your own property to protect it?

Who ambushed the people riding? Owners of the land? Or just some punks?

How about you just stay off other people's land?

I own several firearms, including a .40 handgun, and I don't carry when off-roading, nor do I think it's a good idea to use a firearm for self-defense unless you're already getting shot at or in immediate danger of death. I own my guns because they're fun to shoot, I enjoy disassembling and cleaning them, I enjoy modifying them, and it's a good idea to own at least a few.

OR in fear of great bodily harm, you forgot that.

So let me get this right....

Someone was where they were not supposed to be and got roughed up. Granted, a buttstroke to the face is a little excessive, but there also is no mention if these people have trespassed on that property before or not. (Farmers are allowed to shoot if you damage their crops).

So your solution is to start carrying a gun so if someone stops you and waves a gun around, you can wave yours too and the shooting can commence.

^^^Seems like the most obvious thing to do :icon_thumby:
It's not always that cut and dry. Yes, you need to stay off of other peoples land, but you tell me that you can tell the difference between public land and private land that is not marked/fenced.

Sometimes shit happens. In some state's it is the land owners right to defend his land. Does that warrant assault? That is a whole other discussion.

All the OP said was that a situation came to his attention that made him decide that he wants/needs to carry a firearm while off-roading for personal protection. Which is his right, you know that little thing called the 2nd amendment. He never claimed that he was trespassing or planing on trespassing.

I personally carrier a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44Mag loaded with Buffalo Bore heavy .44 Mag +P+ whenever I am out in the sticks, weather it be hunting, fishing, camping, wheelin' or whatever. Bear and cats are a problem in Northern California, and there is a high probability of stumbling across a pot farm or meth cook house on public land.

Walther makes a fine gun, but you might consider stepping up to something that has a little more punch if bear or cats are a problem in your area. There ain't much that is still going to want to do you harm after being hammered by a 340 gr. hardcast bullet moving at 1500 fps.:icon_thumby:

A couple years ago a crazy old guy was taking potshots at another guy cropdusting the neighbors field. Said he was afraid it would drift and kill his tomatos.

He did get a couple holes in the plane too. :shok:

my question is this: what do you think a .22 pistol is going to do to someone that already has a shotgun or rifle pointed at you?

that's great you hold great groups at 10 yards with a .22. i hold great groups at 500 yards with my .308 remington 700P.

here's an idea, STOP TRESPASSING

Up here I always have a gun with me, Its legal for me to Conceal Carry without a permit since I have no felony charges (or any criminal charges for that matter) and I am of legal age to purchace a Hand gun. Just today I went out and did some wheeling and I had a 12 guage shotgun with me, but it wasnt for people, it was for Bear protection since I also did a bit of fishing. The place I was wheeling at is also a hot spot for Salmon (the Red salmon arnt in just yet at Jim Creek :( ) and the bears are what I was worried about. How ever It is My legal RIGHT to carry a fire arm so I do most of the time. THat said, I have never pulled my gun on any one because I have never fealt that I was in fear for my life. The only time I think any one should pull a fire arm on another human is if they are in REAL fear for thier life and are WILLING TO USE IT!!!! Waving it around doesnt always "stop" some one from attacking or shooting you. That said, I dont Trespass and so I have never been confronted by some one before, the places I wheel at If some one was to come at me with a gun I would be calling the troopers, getting the licence plate numbers and turning them in for pulling a fire arm on me (In Alaska the only time it is legal to POINT a fire arm at some one is in a Self defence situation, if you point a gun at some one even if you dont pull the trigger you are in Deep SH**T! ).

All That said, I see no problum with some one carrying a fire arm for self defence, but you better do some research into where you are wheeling at, granted assault is still way out of grounds for them to do to you BUT If you pull a gun on them on thier own property your could end up with major problums, be it legal, or physical!

If Im going any where where bears may be you will always find a gun in my truck.
