Hi All
New Member from Lynchburg SC
my name is Rick
I am working on a 2002 Ranger , with a 3.0 vulcan v6
just did an engine rebuild , and as expected am having electrical issues (engine not firing) not sure if it could be the PATS system :icon_confused:
any suggestions would be great!

Does the Check Engine light come on and stay on when you turn the key to Run (do not crank the starter)? You MUST have this for the engine to run. Check fuses, PCM Power Diode and PCM relay.

Did you do anything to or with the PCM (engine computer)?

Does the fuel pump run for 2 seconds each time you turn the key from Off to Run? The Inertia Switch may have gotten tripped during your heavy maintenance work. It's located about where the passenger's toes hit, under the carpet. (If Check Engine light is not coming on, neither will the fuel pump)

Does the THEFT light in the dash flash fast? Normal flash is a little slower than once per second (key in Run position). That will rule out PATS for you.

Does the starter crank the engine over?
Auto or manual transmission?

Well the first question you must ask yourself is "What didn't I plug in?"

The second question is "What did I plug in wrong?"

Then go see if you are missing fuel, fire, or both.

ok here is a little history on this truck
2002 Ranger (sport)
3.0 vulcan V-6 /automatic

I bought it for $250
knowing the engine had no compression

I did a complete rebuild on it
reinstalled the engine
everything is plugged in
I did find a few missing fuses (all related to "PCM" )
replaced with correct fuses, and now the Anti-theft light is flashing at high speed ...
so it appears there is a problem here , also when I added the missing fuses the starter stopped working...stone cold dead ...no clicks , no nothing
and check engine light went out after initial system scan

the fuel injectors were getting pulsed from the PCM and also the coil pack, I have fuel pressure , and fuel pump is working properly (( all prior to replacing the fuses ))
