what up everyone I'm a new member here but this site has hooked me up with a lot of help on my truck. anyways I have a 99 ranger 4.0 4x4 104,000m. when I crank over the engine it wants to die right away so I have to give her a little gas. also when i'm idling or coasting the rpms will drop down to 500. i just replaced spark plugs and wires, fuel and air filters. i'm thinking it might be an oxygen sensor but any ideas are appreciated.

sounds like a vacume leak check all you're hoses and dost it change at all when you slam on the brakes ??? i would hold off on the o2 rite away ... and to help check for leaks ... some disagree with this method but always works for me but take a can of carb clean and spray around you're throttle body and hoses..... also dose it change at all when the car get warmer??

nope

its the same hot or cold. it seems like when i first fire it up in the morning the rpm will hold for a few maybe 20 seconds, then it drops back to 500 and wants to die. a friend suggested the carb cleaner spray tech so i think i'll try that out.

how many temperature sensors are there on a 4.0L???

my old Daytona Turbo Z had 2. One for the gauge and one for the computer. My gauge showed fine, the computer sensor was F'd/Up.

i dont think it woudld be a temp senser.. but i would say a idol air control but that usually olnly messes up at first startup and after it warms up it ill go away.. but u can rule that out... id just do the carb thing first and see what you get
