When I used to do drafting a black background was a HUGE help with eyestrain. That is looking at a computer 8 hours a day.

I used a white background in high school (not sure the teacher knew you could change it) and it college it was an eye opening thing that made a lot of difference.

I get it. I also like the dark. I was just trying to help until. Also, 8 hrs is a long time in front of a computer screen. I edit video in my spare time and it can take 8 hrs of editing to get less than 3 minutes of footage, I have the background dark for that reason. I'm not arguing, just suggesting alternative measures. Turning on a brighter overhead light helps your eyes with the white screen, learned that from a little kid, and it worked for me. Don't know if it's real science or not.

Staring at a blaring white computer screen does a lot more damage than just to your eyes. It pretty much scrambles brain waves also, and affects the way your brain works during sleep.

Why not just turn the brightness on your screen down a little until he makes changes? The look doesn't bother me, old eyes like right light.
