hey guys, just joined this site since i got a ranger im building up. this is seriously the most useful site around. definetly helped alot. but onto the build. the truck is a 1989 ranger, reg cab long box, 2.9, 5 spd, 4x4. im building this as my wheeling truck, nothing else. so this is what im doing for now, adventually it will be built way more, but with a bit of a budget this is what it gets for now. im piecing together a 6" lift up front, getting the ttb drop brackets, 6" skyjacker coils, an drop pitman arm. im going to cut the radius arms and extend them, and build the drop brackets for them. the rear i am building extended shackles, and getting 63" chevy leafs and swapping them in. also going to build a custom rear cage and flat deck and front bumper. tires are 33x14x15 super swamper boggers. here are some pics of some progress.

truck when i got it, had a little 2" lift or something, on 31's

wow your trucks looks exactly like my 85'
keep us updated with this build, i'll be watching it closely.

nice i like the shackle hanger moved forward idea. i want to move my front one forward
6" and the back forward 8" so i can flip the spring around backwards and really shorten the frame. not sure if that will work yet though?

yeah if you do that you would have to watch your pinion angle. i just bolted it up there temporary, waiting for some chevy leaf springs, then i might move the front bracket forward too. see how it fits

Would welding a small plate to the back side of that shackle help strengthen it up some?

yes

It looks like he has those shackles made out of 1/4 inch steel, that is some THICK metal for this application BUT I too question the rigidity of the shackles without some sort of back plate. One more piece of that stock(?) you are using across the back at the top should suffice and make the 2 sides structurally sound.

sick build! love the boggers! you said their only 10 inches wide? they stick out just as much as my 14.5's keep us updated on this thing!

thats what i was thinking, but no way a 10 wide tire! their meaty!:icon_thumby:

whoops sorry, tire size is 33x14x15, 10 wide rims. got the front end up and starting to pull it all apart and start building the radius arms and drop brackets for them.
question for you guys. if i extend my radius arms, looking at extending about 12", i dont have to have 6" drop brackets for them do i? they can just drop maybe like 2" or so. what do you think?

here are some updates.

front end all pulled out

was originally going to just run the dana 28 but then i came across this deal, dana 35, and 8.8 rear out of a 93 explorer, same 3.73 gearing as i have. got it all for 75$. not going to put the 8.8 in right away. im just going to run the rear axle i got for now.
question.. on the front dana 35, what is the electrical that goes in right behind the disk brake for? almost looks like its for a speedometer or something

ABS sensor.

Also, no the arm brackets don't have to be dropped way down, just make sure you build some additional caster into the arms.

Nice build :icon_thumby:

this is a sweet build up you should have done a soild axle :icon_twisted: but either way Bitchin.
