A few years ago I bought a new, 1 gallon gas can for my leaf blower. It's one of these stupid, spill-proof CARB compliant things, that are now the only kind of gas cans that can be legally sold now. I find myself actually way more likely to spill gas with it than my 2 other older cans. Last week, I noticed the whole can is starting to bulge. :icon_surprised: Why is this happening, and should be afraid that this thing is gonna explode? I really can't stand this thing. I really hope my other cans last a really long time so I won't have to buy another one of these stupid things.

Mine does the same thing. It gets about twice as big as it should when I leave it in my shed during the summer. The things do not vent at all...it's retardery, I tell you.

I think they're probably safe...mine hasn't exploded (yet)

the are supposed to vent when the internal pressure builds too high. but I have seen them crack before doing so.

imo, they are junk.
you can still buy normal cans from some military surplus places (plastic or metal where I go). I would toss that POS right in the trash and get some of them.

its been a while since ive seen one but i remeber something about a spring loaded nozzle? i would be tempted to cut or drill or otherwise modify the thing so the nozzle acts like the old style.

Justrite Part number 10828 is a proper damn 5-gal fuel can. They have them in one, 2 and three gal as well. I have 4--2 yellow and 2 red. The price has soared--I paid about $50 each a couple years ago--it's still worth it. these don't leak when they fall over--and they rarely do as they are so squat. They vent themselves via the spring loaded cap. They never hiss or spit. They never dribble fuel. They positively stop when you close the cap--you don't have to swing it up really fast. At $21 to fill a can, it's worth protecting your gas with a good can. I threw my collection of shitty plastic things away. Those new ones really, really suck. My brother has one, Blitz from WalMart I think and when you pop the cap loose it goes flying across the garage. Then it pours really badly. It might be vented in the nozzle, but it isn't vented worth a damn. And you still have to be as steady handed as the High Plains Drifter to keep from dumping gas all over the lawnmower engine when you are done filling the tank.

Jesus, another thing for me to rant about. I hate those goddamn cans without a vent. EPA needs to pull their heads out of their asses.

I have a handful of the Blitz vents and I modified my "Pour proof" cans.

I do like the rigid nozzle of the "spill proof" cans but this bullshit with the spring loaded "CARB" nozzles?

I know just were to put those nozzles.

In the Desk of my US representitive and tell him to either
A) tell the EPA to shove it
or
B) shove it himself.

I had to get another Kero can a little while ago (Just don't ask...) and even the kero cans are like that now. Hell, My dad has a diesel can like that too!...you try to catch the little latch on the side of the farily wide tractor fuel tank and half the time you end up washing the tractor in $5.40/gal diesel! I took my unvented can and put a little needle valve type vent on it, and I made up a couple of nozzles out of fuel hose with a cork for a cap.

I bought Jerry cans from Warn. Work great.

hehe they go after gas cans but ignore people like al gore circumventing epa laws for other companies
