new car

probes are good cars, but that ad scares the heck out of me.

the GT came with a naturally asperated 2.5 liter, not a turbo 2.2....so one has to wonder what kind of abortion went on here...or maybe the guy is just daft. he also hints at some wiring issues which may turn out to be minor...but its been my experience with cheap cars that they are not minor at all.

in that body there were 2.2 turbo motors. they were fast but good luck finding parts.

i would honestly get a truck. my friend had a turbo probe gt and it was a nightmare to find almost anything for it.

the GT's also came with the 3.0 at one point...cant deny that its a good motor and scoots the probe along with authority.

i will always own a truck though. maybe you should get a fast truck :D

I had a Probe for about 5 years. Sold it to a buddy of mine so I could buy a Mustang. It was a great car that never gave me any problems (except for the axles, but those are normal for a car with 130k miles) and got great gas mileage. The turbo Probes are fast as hell. Parts for them can be difficult to come by, and they are expensive as hell. I had a '95 Probe, and still had a hard time finding parts. I had an extremely good experience with being a Probe owner, and I still miss it every time I see it driving around post, but I would go with the truck.

My former student had a 1989 Probe. Nice car, worked great until it got shifted into reverse on the highway (weird story involving a rather drunk passenger -- I gave him the fused reverse gear clutch pack as a souvenir), and then the timing belt broke (double plus ungood for an interference engine).

My turbo 2.3 ranger scoots along just as good as any old turbo probe! And it's a truck.

I'd be scared of anything that's FWD and fast. It's been my experience that FWD parts don't hold up to the power necessary to go fast.

had a mitsubishi 3000 gt was stable at 134 mph (in 4th gear)it was FWD.
i would like to have a VR4 3000 before i croak.......twin turbo AWD!

:icon_rofl:

you should do a google search for "honda dyno"...see just how many FWD hondas are out there with over 3, 4, even 500HP...usually on the stock tranaxle and cv shafts. then there was the 220HP tauras, 143HP escort, 170HP focus...low poer comparativly, but all factory options.
