New build burning rich

First thing I would check is the FPR - they are known to leak on older trucks and if they do, it dumps fuel right into the intake. Run the engine, shut it off and take the vacuum line off the FPR and check for gas dripping out of the vacuum port of the regulator.

On the 92 and earlier trucks, code 173 only means that the system is running rich - there is no left / right.

Hi, ok tested the vacuum line for the fuel regulator. no difference, no leaks. changed the o2, and put in a new "Air Charge Temperature" sensor. The ETC should be good for there never was any probs with the one before. What I am going to do now is take 6 injectors to a shop and get them rebuilt and calibrated then place them into this build and see if this will fix the richness of the fuel.

Bird, now that i have you here, on all your builds with this cam did you ever notice this type of problem with fuel? How did your motors respond and was there a tweak that you had to do to tune them to run better?

thanks

Never had the fueling problems you've described - actually had to go up to
24's with the 422 / P&P, headers combo.

What's your fuel pressure at idle?

Hey all, Haven't had a chance to tackle this problem as of yet. (had surgery and been laid up. However, dropped off the injectors for cleaning and they are ready to be picked up. I hope to be able to get them in over the week (have healing time off) so hopefully by week's end I will be up and about enough to pull wrenches. (just wanted to update this in case anyone was wondering what happened or had I fixed this prob. thanks

I am up and about.... and feeling good enough to tackle the injectors.... and I am happy to say that this problem seems to be 99% fixed!!!! There is a slight rich mix, however, what is burning off I can live with. I will be keeping an eye on it to see if it will work itself out. I am still getting a CEL and I am leaning to takeing the truck in to get it looked at. I still feel the timing is somehow out a bit. as strange as this seems.

Thanks all who have read this and responded to the prob. I still am needing to check the rail pressure. :( and will update when it is done.

Old thread

I know this thread is 6.5 years old BUT did you ever 100% fix the problem. How has the build been running over the year? Curious as I am looking at a very similar build to drop into my BII.
