Going to be replacing the master cylinder soon and figured i might as well replace the pads. I was wondering what pads you guys have had good luck with. Im looking for just a mild upgrade for stopping power. Should I replace the rotors while im at it? They are just a few years old and I dont think they are warped any.

Any time you have the pads changed its a good idea to at least have the rotors turned. As for pads, I get the lifetime ones from autozone. Never have to buy pads again for my ranger.

the pads are really supposed to last a lifetime?

Nope they wont, but when they wear down you can simply exchange them for new ones at zero cost.

that sounds pretty good is there a limit on how often you can exchange them or something?

There shouldnt be. Ive exchanged mine probly 3 times in a 4 year period. They still had plenty of life left but I figured if the wheel had to come off might as well get new pads because there free. Id go for the duralast gold.

+1 That's what I have. No need to spend money on expensive pads, IMO.

what "lifetime pads" do is generally last a long time.

they are usually a VERY hard compound

this "hard" brake compound generally works well once you
"warm the brakes" a bit, but if you do a LOT of freeway
driving the fact that it takes a hard pedal application to
get them to work when cold can be annoying.

I'm personally running factory Ford Pads on my 1997 brake setup
and they work as described above.... they need to be "warmed up"

but since my last set worked well for two years...

The factory pads are either Bosch or Bendix (those are the two subcontractors)
and I'm currently running the Bosch Pads.

It is my feeling that even though both pads are made to a manufacturers
(Ford's) spec there are subtle differences, I've run the Bendix in the past
and think they are just a bit harder and require a fraction more warm-up.

Expensive pads, like Performance Friction, Hawk or EBC typically offer
better hot performance while also improving cold performance

But this is variable depending on your choice of compound.

Frankly If I had the money I'd get EBC pads, either the Red or the Yellow.

My buddy has the red pads and really likes them. ive been thinking about those for awhile but i dont really like the price
