i recently bought a 1988 B II, first of all, i need to do a little work on it, while am doing that what are the most important things to check/ upgrade to make it a reliable daily driver(for now:3gears:)

First off welcome to TRS. Always glad to have new members.IMO the most important thing to do unless you know the person it came from would be to check and/or change all the fluids(oil, water, tranny, brake, clutch and differentials). Also a complete tune-up or atleast new plugs and air filter. A quick look under the hood for corrosion on battery terminals, corroded or broken/disconnected wires and cracked insulation. Ckeck brake lines and wheel cylinders for leaks. That's most likely the least basic things to check. There are alot of other things to check such as wheel bearings and ball joints. Just remember it's a 20 yr old vehicle. Get a Chiltons or Haynes manual for it. Most parts stores carry them for around $20 or so. They contain alot of useful info such as wiring and vacuum diagrams.

Hope you enjoy your new truck and don't be afraid to ask questions. The only dumb question is one not asked. Oh, and don't forget to vote for TRS for Top 4X4 site.

Fiirst, check the water level and make sure it has the proper anti-freeze mix. Always check your water level frequently. 2.9s are noted for cracking heads or blocks if they get too hot.. Second, it's cheap, just change the oil and filter, then make sure the trans, x-fer case, and both diffs have the right amount of gear oil. If yer feelin real friskie, change 'em. Fresh oil's always better...Cap, rotor, plugs, and wires and that's about as much as you can do for starters. Oh yeah...check your tire pressure. Pull the wheels off and inspect the pads and shoes, you'll wanna know when to expect to have to do a brake job..Check water level in the battery if it's not a maintenance free. Top off window washer fluid...fill the tank, get on the road...or off...
