I just put a carbureted 302 in my 95 ranger, everything works great except the starter wont engage using the key. If I jump the solenoid on the inner fender the truck starts right up but Im not getting power there from the standard lead. I did have the neutral safety switch off several times while bleeding the clutch (that really should be easier than it is) but I verified 3 times it was re-installed properly. Since I have disconnected the EFI harness is there something that needs to be plugged in to make the neutral safety switch operate? I haven't found a wiring diagram that shows where all of the wires on that switch go but I'm sure several go to the ECU and I'm guessing the ECU is missing an input from somewhere that allows the starter to work but I just don't know which one. I have spent over an hour now using the search bar trying to find someone that had a similar problem with no luck yet. Im on a very short deadline to get this truck back on the road and this and running the exhaust are about the only problem I have left to solve and Im hoping to not have to just put a push button start switch in.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Corey

The 12v power to activate the starter solenoid should just pass thru the NSS clutch switch from the key switch when its in the Start Position.

As far as I know the PCM(ECU) won't effect it.

With key in Start Position you should have 12v at the pink wire on the clutch switch, with clutch pedal in the Red wire(could still be pink at this point) should have 12v.
The 12v out of the clutch switch might turn to red at the connector instead of at the switch.

The red wire connects to the "S" post on the start solenoid.

What did you do with the plug to the nuetral sense switch?

Not sure what you mean by "do with." I took it off the clutch pedal to remove the master cylinder, I never unplugged it nor did I mess with any of the wiring and I know it worked a couple months ago when I pulled it apart because it was my daily driver until that day.

when you pulled the old motor and trainy what did you do with the wiring to the trainy ?

How many wires go to the back up light switch?

if there is 4 , 2 of them is the back up lights, the other 2 may be the nuetral sense switch.

Some ford trans. use all in 1 switch and some use 2 deffernt switchs.

Hot wire to the ignition red /light blue - same as the start solinoid. start is red/lb
red and green is run.
Is one of the wire on the cluch interlook switch red/light blue? Is there power at This switch with key in start ?

That was the problem, I connected the transmission harness to the main harness and it started normally.

Thanks jmcleek, Im not sure I would have gotten to that point with out having bypasses the switch first.

Any suggestions for getting rid of the beeping the computer is now doing? Or do I just have to unplug the computer?

Make sure the beeping is coming from the computer and not from a near by device . The computer is probbly steal provideing some neadded functions like speedo and anti lock brakes and of the assasorrys. -jmcleek

You need to get the book to your vehicle to see the circuits that you need to modify and add to before you eliminate your computer because the computer works some of your important accesories. Without the computer they will not work. I believe there are some circuit boards that you can buy or some programs for your computer to trick the vehicle into thinking that it is still working the same as always. -Becca

Thanks, I will do some more searching and see what I can find out. My available wiring diagrams are pretty lacking, I need to get the service manual for it I think. Thanks again for the help with the reverse switch.
