Need some opinions on a few V8's plus a few other ?s

I imagine though a V10 with headers & open exhaust at 6 grand would sound wicked though.

I wonder if a 390 wouldn't best the V10 backed with an overdrive transmission in fuel economy.

for hiway only mpg i would think one could easily tune it to get better economy. this is say just dropping a fresh 390 with a good fresh 4bbl in place of the v10. even a 429 out of a lincoln.

loaded though...it would probably be negligable if there was a gain at all..

i imagine @ 40-60 bux. possibly 30 or less...soonest i can weigh them as a package would be monday.

No hury still a ways away from working on the engine yet, just collecting need parts still, once you get them weighed and let me know the cost, I'll get you my address, and figure how you want paid be it by paypal or some other means.

Speaking of fuel mileage what kind of mileage should I expect from a stock to mildly built 351 in a Ranger? really hopeing for around 18 MPG perhaps more if possible.

"I now drive a 02 F250 7.3l Powerstroke SD as they are the leader in HD trucks."

In the class that an F-250 falls into, yeah I would give you that. But a real HD truck.....not a chance.

What kind of truck are you refering to as you didnt state that. A semi?

"Better luck next time

Dont pat yourself on the back untill you post up some facts or compairasons.
:icon_rofl:

Ford HD truck that I am talking about are the F-series 250-750's.
Sorry you still lose!!!

I have heard one with duals, no idea what the exhaust was but he had two pipes out the back. He was mildly getting on it, nowhere near 6k.

I have never heard anything sound so wrong and yet so right at the same time. :shok:

Around 14 MPG in a full size unless my foot gets heavy...........Then I can watch the gas gauge drop.
It should be no problem in a lighter truck.

Yeah that about right for my 82 F-250, roughly 14ish if i baby the throtle, ususally 10-12 , so with a truck that weight significantly less than a 4x4 F-250, 18+ MPG should be plausible? I really would like to eventaully have this project as a daily driver, and not spend a fortune keeping the gas tank full.

Still curious on some cam recomendations, looking fora happy medium of good power + good fuel economy.

A new question about the Fuel Rails

A new question.
Useing the 5.8L truck lower manifold, what fuel rails will work with it will it have to be the one from a 5.8l truck, or will ones from a 5.0l mustang work as well or even the 5.0 truck rails?

either one. you can port out the inlet holes to the injectors on them for more flow. the truck ones defiantly flow better potentially and the truck 351 ones on the stock intake are easier as you have to put a wider crossover line on to use 302 ones on any 351 intake. and the truck ones bring the line in the rear.

but if you need to port them you also need custom tuning when using oem computers.

also the truck ones can limit upper intake positioning in many aftermarket intakes due to the fp regulator height and location

in the case i suggest its not an issue...i can send stock inj and rails no cost.

Wow thanks again, you sure you dont want anything more than shipping costs?

Will proabably leave the injectors alone for now, till I have things up and running, and then start modding You're sure saving me alot of money and beating my head off the table.

This project is makeing me once again realize just why I like this site so much.

i have several. i used to work allot with stangs and ranger swaps so i have some crap that needs to go to say the least. and i shitcanned half of what i had when i relocated from detroit to northern mi:shok:

Thanks again I really appreciate the help with the parts.

I have a question about the distributor as well, The stock one the the 84 5.8l wont work with a mustang MAF setup right? I will have to swap to a TFI distributor from a 94+ 5.8L to work with the mustang ECU, also useing a TFI distubutor I'll have to have the gear swaped froma steel gear to a cast gear if i understand right to use the TFI with the flat tapet cams in an 84 5.8L block.
To the best of my understanding the steel gear 94-and newer is used witht the roller cam, and the cast is used with flat tappet cam 93 and older, and all the 5.8L TFI distibutors came witht the steel gear.

just use a 89 f150/bronco dizzy.

USeing an 89 351 distirubtor, with the injector harness and engine harness, computer, and associated sensors from a 88-93 mustang 5.0L, will all work with the lower intake fuel rails and injectors from a truck 351 without any modifications? Or need to do anything with the computer?

Also how good are the stock heads on the 84 5.8LHO ? Eventually will swap them for Gt40's or somthing beter, will they flow good enough to make decent power for now?

Will hopefully in the futre build up a 94+ 5.8L, but for now want to build one on the cheap with what i got, to get everything up and running, so when the time comes the 94 roller will just be a plug and play swap.
