Hey guys. I have a 94 Ranger XLT 4x4. When my tax return comes in I'll be getting some new tires, but I was also thinking about upgrading the suspension. I'm wasn't to put 31s on it and was thinking about getting a 2 in. lift. First off, what are my brand options and the best brand for a good price? Second, will I have to do anything to the driveshaft for just 2 in.? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jeff

You dont need to extend the drive shaft, do this http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/WasherCoilSpacers.htm or this http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/levelingkits.html I did poly spacers however I would recommend metal, over all pretty easy, and welcome!!!

Thanks for the advice. The only issue is that my suspension is pretty shot. I know for a fact that I need to replace the shocks all the way around, but how could I find out if my coil springs and leaf springs need to be replaced?

Jeff

since its a 94 and the springs have probably never been replaced its a good bet they are sagging at least a little. i would say instead of spacers go with some leveling coils from either rough country or skyjacker. and if you want 2" front and rear then you could do an add a leaf in the rear or extended shackles. either way it will be relatively cheap

That sounds like the plan to me. I found a guy on ebay that offers skyjacker coils and add-a-leafs for $239.00. He also offers the oversize caster/camber shims and either hydraulic or gas shocks. Would this be a good kit to go with? Is there anything else I would need?

yeah. you should be fine with that. the only difference you might notice is a stiffer rear end due to the extra leaf but no biggie.
but the lift will be close to maxing out your shocks so i would look into a new set that are about 2-4" longer than stock

f150 springs and retainers and expo leaves and 2 inch drop shackles cheap and will fit 31's poss 33's

the explorer leafs are simple to put in, i just did a set of expo leafs and belltech 6400 shackles, had to remove my block though, because it wouldn't all fit in with the shocks i have on there... but i might try to squeeze it in later...

you will notice a difference in ride... my back end is much stiffer now, with the expo leafs on my truck, and the springs i replaced were only like 3 years old

You wont need to lift the back to make it level, unless you like the raked out look

Thanks everyone. However I don't want to use explorer and f150 parts. Mainly because I'm trying to replace most of the suspension with new parts and Id be spending just as much if not more for the oem replacements.

@ Ravo - thanks man, i was already planning on getting the skyjacker shocks with the springs. Hopefully this will all make the look I'm trying to get. Would you recommend the hydraulic or the nitrogen shocks?

nitro shocks, if u use hydraulic they will be bad in a week if u offroad any, and the reason for parts from different trucks is there stronger then the OEM parts that came factory.

u can get them all new and better parts then just buying oem replacements

Couple more questions...

Over the past couple of days, I have been looking at the rough country 4 in lift. I have access to a cheap set of 32's, so I figured I'd go a little bigger in the suspension. Is there anybody here that has some experience with this kit on a 93-97 ranger 4x4 ext cab? Is it a good kit? will i need to do anything to the 2 piece drive shaft? are there any other major modifications I will need to do? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. I have looked at the tuff country lift, but unless they have one with new leafs then I won't be going that route. My leaf springs are on their last leg. The RC lift reviews that I've read have been mixed. There were problems with the old kit, but Rough Country told me on the phone that their lift was redesigned a couple of years ago to fix the issues. And as for the ride quality, I've read that this one is good for use as a DD and some light off road travels. That sounds more my taste at the moment. Thanks again though!
