Okay, soon I will be SAS'ing, and was planning on using 7" EB coils, but am considering going with a coilover setup since I'll be sinking that much $$ into the setup, and I'm going for a stupid maximum flex suspension setup. I will have a custom front bumper/winch combo, hopefully around the 200 lbs mark, I don't want it too heavy...Anyways here is my question, with the 7" EB coils lifting the Ranger about 10.5 inches, what is the unsprung hieght of these coils, so I know what length coilovers to get, and what is the spring rating of this, as I want a soft spring, I think its around 225 to 250...Any help or direction?? I'll using 8" lift 63's our back for now, but may do the coilovers back there depending on the $$'s for em. My rig is currently a DD and an every weekend extreme wheeler, so it still needs to be driveable on the street, it won't be high speed so I don't need to worry about being too stable on the street...Thanks:icon_thumby:

I'm not sure I understand why you'd need coilovers with an EB spring, but stability on the street should be your number one priority. The life you save may not be your own.

... I'm going for a stupid maximum flex suspension setup.

You might not want to get too caught up in the "max flex" thing (you are aware you can have too much flex, right?). 25-30" (or 50-60" total) is all you really need if you're swapping to full-width axles (less if stock width). Of course that's also a true amount of flex too (no gimmicky stuff like Revolving shackles, uncaptured coils, etc.).

Can't help you much on the EB coils other than Broncograveyard lists a 5.5" Superflex coil as being 23.5" long. Most are also in the 300-350PPI range.

Contact the specific coil manufacturer to see if they will disclose the spring rates. I've got 3.5" wildhorses dual rate EB springs and they are 204/375.

7" EB coils won't necessarily give you "stupid maximum flex" but it WILL give you a stupid amount of lift.

flex is overrated. I think I already told you this somewhere else. A decent amount of flex and FRONT AND REAR LOCKERS is all you need.

If I had more flex than I have now, this wouldn't have happened

4x4Junkie, would a 350 spring rate be good with a custom bumper and winch on the front?? Of should I got a little more?? And I was thinking about 30-36" coilover length with an adjustable upper mount, this with a 40-42" tire combo, this sound like it would be enough?? Thanks again guys:icon_thumby:

thats his point though...a d-35 with a lift thrown on wont get you much flex if any at all....you dont need a whole lot of flex to do that...just a decent amount

X2.... svt i have looked at those pics time and time again and every time i look at them i think if you would have had front and rear lockers you could have driven through that ditch...yea sure it would have probably gave you a dent or two and had your butt hole puckered into the seat but it would have seriously been do able

ive been reading about all these low COG (centre of gravity) builds and it makes scense to me people are stil fitting 40-42" tires with like 3" max uptravel. but all the articualtion is in the droop (which is where most of the ttb articualtion is isnt it?) and as long as its not drooped so far that theres no weight on the tires itd work.

and ya lockers always help. sorry for the thread jack but i thoguht it was relavent

Kris97ranger, you are correct in that I have very little TTB flex, neither down travel or up travel, the stiff springs "push" the truck over IMO....everytime I get the front on a hill, my back starts teetering, giving me the seesaw effect...I can put lockers in, but my suspension will still send me on my side...

Dude I dont mean to harp on you but those pics arent impressive at all. It just shows your inexperience in wheeling. I wheel my truck on its side (pictures to prove it) and drive out of it. You have no lockers, that is your problem. not flex.

I have to agree. I don't see "flex" helping that situation at all. I keep looking at those pics and wondering why you didn't turn right instead of driving deeper into the ditch...

I tried to turn right, but with the lack of hydraulic assist, I was fighting the steering wheel and just couldn't keep it turned....I wanted to keep the same track I was originally headed, but when I started heading up the other side, it pulled the wheel out of my hands...
