To get right to the point, I am wanting to do a V8 swap in my truck and can't decide whether to do the 5.0L or the 302 (I know they're the same minus the carb or EFI). I like the idea of the EFI for trails and what not, but my truck is an Asian American (American guts with Asian exterior). The body is a 1979 Subaru Brat with a 1985 Ford Bronco II chassis. The Brat had a carb, the Bronco has a 2.8L with the duraspark II ign. Which would be the better bet? 5.0L or 302?

Stay with Duraspark and carb and a 302 will be plug and play.

EFI is better with different temp/elevation changes and off camber off roading.

"5.0" came out in 1978, well before fuel injection. With the big push to go metric then they thought it sounded more modern.

Yeah ok I get what you're saying except for the off camber off roading

EFI is king of off roading. If your wanting to try something easier than efi install a carbureted 302 install a http://gotpropane.com kit

I looked that up and that is freakin sweet but I don't think its the route I wanna take at this point. I'm not really into the rock crawling stuff, I'm more interested in trails and mud and snow stuff, but thanks for that info it was a very interesting read.

If you offroad a lot where the truck is leaning to one side or the other the carb will start to sputter, or if you hit really rough terrain.

If you could keep oil and fuel to it EFI will run just fine upside down.

for what your saying a real small 4 bbl or a decent 2 bbl with double spring float and high tube air horn will get ya by just fine.

but in all seriousness, swapping in an efi obd 1 if you find one that is running is a cake walk with no difference in real work.

say a complete setup from a 150 or a van.
