Need Ranger Help

I cant help much with the body questions and legality. It would be helpful for us yo know what engine is in it and the current mileage. The timing being off and bending valves sounds fishy to me as i dont think in 97 the 2.3l or 4.0l were interference engines. Not sure about a 3.0l. If it were me i would keep my $500.

The same engine (3.0 Vulcan) is used in the Taurus. According to the Taurus Car Club of North America's encyclopedia, the Vulcan is a non-interference engine.

QUICK UPDATE: I got the truck running, I replaced the timing belt & found it has a misfire. Still don’t care I bought it�� The rust on it isn’t as bad as I first thought. The bed was eaten up & the leafspring mounts are rusted to shit. However, that’s only $370 for a new bed and leafspring mounts. Everything else is A okay! I checked the frame for rust and it looked good to go. Now it’s down to replacing those parts and diagnosing the misfire. Thank you all for the good tips, i wouldnt have bought it if yall didnt help me out here.
