Okay, so I NEED to buy new shocks. When I went to Oreilly's to get a set, they asked if I had the high rider option. I never knew that existed but have always thought my Ranger sits higher than most. The High Rider shocks are special order, so I want to make sure I know what I have. I have been searching the web for days now trying to figure out if my 89 Ranger has the suspension package or not and I can't find a definite answer anywhere.

What can I do to make sure I know what suspension is on my truck and what shocks it requires?
Can I use the VIN somehow?

My truck has the front and rear sway bars, and it has the leveling block in the rear.

All help would be very appreciated, I'd really like to pick some new shocks up or order them tomorrow. Thanks.

A good idea would be to unbolt one of your existing shocks and measure the extended length of it, then look up the extended length of the "standard" shock and the "high rider" shock. Whatever measuement matches best is probably the one you need.

I too have a truck that sits higher than the rest and i think mine is the high rider but im not sure...

Your 89 STX 4WD is not a high rider but it is equivalent to the high rider. Ford called it Sport Rider in 89. 1989 was the last year of the factory lift. According to the Ford brochure, all 89 STX 4WD Rangers had the Sport Rider suspension.

Thanks everyone, that original link was very useful.

I do not think I have the sport rider suspension anymore. I have the rear 2 1/2" block, sway bars front and back, but I could not find any of those front passenger brackets.

Hopefully I was looking in the right place.
