Long or short blocks are available... None are probably at a good price unless you find someone who rebuilt one and decided not to drop it in for something else. It might be a good idea to call around to junk yards for a good running replacement engine that you can hear run and inspect. The cost of rebuilding this engine would probably exceed the cost of a new motor (to do a good rebuild on it). Probably wouldn't hurt to look around Craigs list or the classifieds section on this site. You might be able to find another Ranger like yours with a 2.9L for less than the cost of a new long block.
