Hey guys new to the forum. Found the site after doing a google search for truck forums. Figured Rangers and mazdas are pretty much the same so hopefully someone can help me with a problem.

I'm in need of some help with an oil leak on my 1999 Mazda B4000 4x4. It's leaking on the backside of the engine, right above the transmission and leaking down the drivers side of the tranny. It's definitely engine oil, not tranny oil Usually a couple drops on the ground after it's been run. Anybody else run into this problem? Maybe a leaking intake gasket? or VC?
Any help would be appreciated.

I would start with the valve cover gaskets, as they are the cheapest to replace...Once you pull the VCs you can check around to see if its coming from the VCG or another source..

A)Welcome to the forum
B)Yes, your truck is basically a Re-Badged ranger with some slight sheet metal changes for "style"

C)It might also be a cam synchronizer gasket (o-ring) or the back of the intake manifold that's leaking

On the dictum of "do the cheap stuff first" try the valve cover gaskets.

And as this is actually a 4.0 engine question, please don't be upset when the topic is moved to 4.0 engines

So I took it in and was diagnosed as left hand side of the intake was leaking. They checked the valve covers and said they were fine. They did the job yesterday, I went and picked it up today. After parking it at home I go back out couple hrs later and there's oil drips on the ground. Look underneath and it's still all wet. **** i'm pissed.

Maybe a stupid question do you know how old the PCV valve is along with the breather filter. They are cheap and improve performance. I change the PCV/breather filter when I change plugs as a habit now. There is no way to properly check/clean a PCV.

The shop who did the intake gasket took another look and found that oil from before fixing the intake leak had pooled in a valley type place just above the transmission. Cleaned it all up, ran some dye, took it for a hard drive, leak is officially fixed. Thank god.
