I want to go to school to design cars. My time to choose is running out. I have already heard of Kettering (formaly GMI) and it is a shit pit, and i want nothing to do with it. Is there any other schools that would be a good choice? I have tried all the Find a College websites, and they didn't help at all. So i thought, why not reach out to my friends at The Ranger Station. I have found tips on every random fact about my poor old truck. Hopefully you can help me out here too.

What is so bad about Kettering?

What kind of design for cars are you looking at? Exterior/Interior body, or chasis/power-train?

It is just not for me. The pace is far to fast for me. I am looking into doing either. I would prefer to do chasis/ and power train. But i would be more than willing to look into body design as well.

I know the west coast has some really good body design schools (Chip Foose went to one of them), though I do not know many of the names.

Have you checked out Michigan Tech?

Kettering isnt to bad... i should know since i go there... it can be fast paced but its worth it for the co-op... and it has plenty of ranger guys...

those are all of my friends trucks and mine... haha

yea i have no desire to go to kettering, i really don't care about the co-op. I have talked to several students who have gone there, and I have had relitives graduate from there. So i repeat, Kettering is not for me.

If you're looking for a drivetrain education then some sort of engineering would probably be more beneficial. I have plans to go into mechanical engineering in the next year with the plan to hopefully start designing mechanical aspects of new vehicles or customize others.

The automotive engineering program at Minnesota State (Mankato) is top notch:icon_thumby:

I was hoping to keep it anywhere with in the midwest to east coast area.

You won't be able to design decent drivetrains without some ME.

MTU is quite good at that. So is UMich, SUNY, any of the Ivies, and the best is MIT (but then you'll be designing cars you can wear and command by thought waves).

if you want engineering, NC State is a good school. im transferring there after this year.

go seahawks!

Hahaha thats funny. Whats even funnier would be my getting into MIT with my grades

Yeah dude, looking for colleges is stressful. Whatever you do, find a place that you like. I started out at Lawrence Tech, hated it and I'm at GVSU now... I also changed my major. Kettering/GMI is good, but Flint is a shit hole- can't blame you for not wanting to go there. lol. U-M has a good Mech. Engineering program, but as far as auto-design, I don't know. Mich-Tech also has a good engineering program. The other schools in Michigan are okay for engineering- MSU and GVSU actually have a good engineering program.
