Thanks man. I was trying to figure it out and figured it would probably be best just to ask.

I was looking at Write State down by Dayton ohio, is that a good school?

wright state is a good school as i recall. i have friends who go to ohio technical college in cleveland (25 min from me). other than its in the hood its a good school. you would have atleast 2 guys from here who are local to hook up with too. they do school sponsored housing in the burbs so you just have to go to school in the hood not live in it.

That sounds interesting i will have to look into that.

As MAKG said already, there will be some type of Engineering background required for you to do any type of design work in the automotive industry.

I went through Bradley University's Mechanical Engineering program. I liked the school, learned what I needed to receive my degree, and get a job. I recommend it as it is a great school with great opportunities.

The pace is far too fast for me.
Life is of the same or faster pace than my schooling was.

All of the public universities in Ohio except for OSU and maybe Kent are second-tier. It DOES matter, regardless of what your high school counselor says. Internship opportunities are key.

You would do best to find one that has close relationships with industry or government groups. Kent is close to Cleveland, which has NASA/Glenn; perhaps there is something there (they do combustion research). For general-purpose DOE labs, you're largely stuck with northern Illinios, Long Island, or California. Ford and GM tech centers are both in Michigan. So is Chrysler, but it's not clear how much of that has moved to Germany.

I'll predict that conventional drivetrains are on the way out. I expect electrical drivetrains in the future (no transmissions). There Is substantial ME in electrical motor design.

And for F's sake, don't misspell the name of the university you might be interested in. It's "Wright," as in Orville and Wilbur (they were from Dayton).

Another good engineering school in the Midwest is Purdue University in Indiana. Friend of mine graduated with an ME from there last year and landed a hell of a job right out of college. They're expensive but their engineering program is worth it.

It is just not for me. The pace is far to fast for me. I am looking into doing either. I would prefer to do chasis/ and power train. But i would be more than willing to look into body design as well.

Might want to rethink your career choice if you want something laid back...

Nc State is an awesome engineering school, i go there. Its hard though, but the mechanical engineering program which i am in is awesome. clempson has the icar program which is geared toward automotive design.

I strongly recommend you take a look at Michigan Tech in Houghton, MI. They are an excellent engineering school with very good national rankings. 96% of all grads find a job in their field within 6 months of graduation.

They have very close partnerships with the U.S Army, NASA, Ford, GM, Mercury Marine, and DOD, just to name a FEW.

And on the topic of engineering schools, my great great grandfather founded the California Institute of Technology. It's one of the toughest schools in the world to get into, and maybe the best engineering school in the world.

Now that sounds interesting.

You're not interested in MIT, but you are interested in CalTech?

Whatever. But rent Real Genius first.

I would love to go to MIT. But my family and I cannot afford to go. I do not have the grades to get in. I is called being realilistic(sp i know).
I know I will not be except it, and even if i was i couldn't afford it.

Generally if you get in to an elite school, they pay for your education if you can't afford it. Havard for example has an endowment fund with tens and tens of billions of dollars.

My immediate family isn't that wealthy, but my sisters were able to attend Ivy Leagues of their choosing; we payed a small amount of money and the school picked up the rest of the (large) tab. While CalTech and MIT are not Ivy League schools, I would guess that they have similar practices.

The schools figure if you're smart enough to meet the admission requirements, you'll give back more to the school in the future, and they're getting a good ROI.
