I'm fairly new on working on my 01 ranger, its the v6 4.0 just get facts straight. So ATM i have all stock exhaust, I want to put a flowmaster 40 series exhaust on it, however I want to buy an entire Exhaust kit, but they dont sell entire sets for my truck. I want to put a single exhaust, not a true double, nor a y pipe.

So should i just just buy a muffler from flow-master and buy piping? Not exactly sure on what to do, i can get ahold of a wielder and do some custom work as necessary for the piping, but i dont neccesarly know a whole lot about upgrading an exhaust, so i hope i came to the right place?!

Any additional tips and opinions are highly welcome, and thank you for your time!

Honestly...get a Thrush Welded muffler (same thing as a flow 40 just $40 cheaper) that fits in place of the stock muffler, weld that in. Then find a nice tip and weld it on.

Done.

You really can't upgrade the exhaust system anymore over stock and expect any performance gains unless you have port-and-polish heads/cam/injector/intake work/etc. done to it, from what I have gathered. Making the pipes any bigger than 2.25" isn't going to do anything, and might hurt performance.

But just replacing the muffler will sound good, a classy welded-on tip will make it look like you have a nice $350 system, and it will all be very minimal work.

Thanks for the response! My current plan is to put gibson performance headers on, I found some good deals on some magmaflow/gibson cat-back exhausts (2.5in pipes), K&N FIPK intake, I've done some more research sense the time of this post and got better facts and am going to start solidifying my build soon. On top of on top gona but some BFG's A/T, Stealth rogue rims prob 18, leer tenneau, Maybe a performance throttle body, gona put in new spark plugs when i do the headers/intake. Minor details :D

But thanks for the input, and i probably should of done more research when first making this post

Nah its cool. This is part of the research process.

But nice! Sounds like you'll have an awesome looking truck.

I think the K&N, exhaust, and throttle body should give it a little pep.
