Transmission
Automatic
So I got a 94 with the a4ld, I bought another one that should also have an a4ld but doesn't use the same filter. Is this new transmission a bolt in or is it a newer one? Everything else looks near identical just different filters and the tail shafts are just a little different .

Pictures aren't uploading from my phone give me Second to work that out but the numbers read on the original transmission: tail shaft( P92GT-7A040-AAR ) and the tail shaft on new transmission reads ( P95GT-7A040-BAR ) the throttle bodies and connections all look the same and read be same numbers. Thanks in advance for any clues. But the filter I took off this new
Transmission is labeled for a 95 not a 94. Does it matter ?

are they both 2wd or 4wd? are electric plugins the same? Do both have a vacuum modulator?

And both transmission need to be from 4.0l or holes won't line up on block

I see the P95GT-7A040-BAR part number come up for the 4R55E trans, so no not the same one, the "95" in P95GT would indicate that as well.
P92GT-7A040-AAR, has "92" which would make sense for a 1992 to 1994 vehicle, Ford part number has first year used in part number, not model year, so "92" could be in a 1992 and up vehicle, but not 1991 or older.

A4LD and 4R55E are almost the same trans but I think 4R55E lost the vacuum kick-down module because it had full computer control.
Look if new trans has vacuum hook up, and 3 wire connector plug in, if so, it will be fine to use

A4LD 1990-1994 4.0l just had OD and TCC(torque converter lockup) controls, Ground plus 2 wires so 3 wire connector

Your 1994 computer couldn't control 4R55E trans

I looked on the doors and both doors on both trucks say T for transmission which is suppose to be a4ld, both engines are suppose to be 4.0 OHV and yea the new trans does have the vacuum modulator just like the old one, which I should replace before installing correct ? Tomorrow I'll double check the wires and see if they are the same but visually all the connections look the same and in same locations . Both are 2wd trucks.

Then you are good to go.

One heads up that many unfortunately learn when installing their first automatic trans, I did.

While trans is out, the torque converter is installed on the transmission input shaft, and then you rotate it while pushing in on it, it will "click in" 2 or 3 times, that is the torque converter sliding into the main pump(front pump) tabs.

Torque converter should now be inside bell housing, nothing sticking out passed the end, put a straight edge(2x4) across bell housing if you are not sure.

If you forget to do this then bell housing won't slide in flush to engine but very close, and you will put bolts in to hold it in place and then snug up those bolts to pull bell housing against the block.
Then you may or may not hear a noise, but doesn't matter because you have broken the front pump tabs, so front pump is toast, gone, busted, rebuild needed.
And you will bolt everything back together not knowing this.
Get all the other parts back on, get truck down off the jacks, and jump in to try out the new trans.
You start the engine and shift into gear..................nothing, WTF!!, Reverse, nothing, WTF!!!.

Been there done that, my first time.

Bell housing will slide in flush, wiggling but no forcing needed, after bell housing is bolted in, torque converter should slide forward a bit when being bolted to flexplate

Awesome! And thanks for the extra tip although I learned it the hard way already, it is my first ranger transmission but not my first ever swap and I had to Make that mistake on an aveo and realized all torque converters must be seated in the transmission splines before installing transmission, anything less leaves you a two ton paper weight. This was learned the hard way on my first swap as well. Coincidentally.

It is a Club that doesn't need new members :)

But gets them anyway
