After sitting for awhile I got my 88 running. Idled at just over 2000 rpm so I checked for vacuum leaks and found a couple hoses needed repair and the intake gasket needed replaced. I went through the trouble of changing and fixing all this, put back together and it fired right up first try and idled down around 900 rpm. I decided to drive it down the street a few blocks and it did fine. It made a high pitch whine for a block or so decided to turn around and head back to shop. It died and now it wont start. It acted like timing maybe off right before it died, so i pulled SPOUT found TDC checked Dizzy and thought good to go. It won't start. Just cranks. I did get it to start if I pump the foot feed just right it will run super rough and sickly then die. NEED HELP!! Any ideas. I Have fuel and sprak. :shok:

I would pull the vacuum line of the fuel pressure regulator to see if it has gas in it due to the diaphragm in the FPR being blown. My did this. Flooded the engine through the vacuum line. Ran rough as gravel. Didn't make a whine but I can conceive it "whistling" through the FPR. Giving it the gas through the pedal would allow enough air in to even out the mixture with all that extra fuel, letting it fire up.

I'm no expert, but it's an easy thing to check. If there is fuel in there it's prolly in your brake booster hose too.

sounds like the tfi module on side of distributor died if you have week or intermitant spark replace tfi don't forget to put di-electric grease a good even coat between it and distributor. you'll need a torx bit tool at 90 degree angle to change it tool and part are fairly cheap and a common problem on these engines. i had to replace mine once after engine wash and 2 weeks later because i forgot to grease i was out out at 25 below zero
