Hello, i need headers for a 408 windsor with afr 225 heads they have a 3" wide bolt pattern. the truck is a 98 ranger.Someone out there help, :icon_welder:I called kook's custom headers and they want 2750.00 to build a set on the truck. That's to high for me,even though they make the best headers i've ever owned !! Looking for some suggestions.

You might look at what the guys who make Torque monster headers can do for you. Or you can make your own. Either way it's custom built for you IMO.

Boy, I have tried to think of someone but for sure it's going to have to be custom and not cheap. Bob (it's only Bob) at Torque Monster does not do tubing larger than 1 1/2". Did find someone building a set for a 351, no idea of the heads. You can see what a snake pit the tubing looks like to get around everything in a later Ranger.

Hello!
I completely understand where you are coming from!

For my Windsor, I built my own headers. For flanges, I called SPD Exhaust (888-778-3312, spdexhaust.com) in California. They make some really good stuff. They can make flanges for just about any head on the planet (like even NASCAR D3's). I had them make me flanges with 3" stubs welded on and I did the rest. If you found some headers, you could cut off the flanges and weld some new ones on. Unfortunately the ready to use flanges run about $450.

And yes I believe custom will be your best bet.

My headers should be done ceramic coating on Friday, but here is some motivation in the meantime...

thanks for the help and pics.glad to see i'm not alone on this combo.very nicely done on your custom work,i will folllow along and do my own set. i do have an old set of kooks 1 &7/8 from my mustang (same heads new short block) time to start cutting.

Someone has to break ground, think that's the biggest motor yet in a later Ranger. Good luck and report back.

I got mine kit from Tubular Automotive out of New Jersey. 1 3/4 inch primaries and 3 inch collectors. I did fenderwell because the lower control arm mount was in the way. Truck's been cleaned up since these pictures

try a junkyard or parts dealer for a used or new cheap header that can easily be modified, and fits, then work from that. (worst come).

Delayed as usual, but started last weekend.
