Need Advice What To Replace?

There should be a tag somewhere listing the ratio (either a yellow & white decal on the backside of the passenger beam, or a metal tag on one of the front cover bolts)

Lacking that, look on the side of the ring gear itself for a stamped-in number such as "41-10" indicating the # of ring and pinion gear teeth.

Last, you can try checking it by counting the # of turns of the pinion for one turn of the differential carrier (4.1 turns = 4.10. 3¾ turns would be a 3.73, and so on).

I found a D35 with 4.10 and picked up yesterday. the guy did not have the D35 Springs.
should I try and locate some D35 Springs or stick with my D28 Springs?

Springs are the same. Use yours if they're in good shape.

'96 will likely have a D28/35 hybrid diff (basically a D28 with D35 shafts that neck down inside the diff). This might not matter much if you're running stock sized tires, but to get an actual D35, you must get it out of a '90-'92 2.3 or 2.9L model (with auto trans only for 2.9 models).

So my 96 is not a true D35?

That's what I thought. I guess I don't understand 4X4Junkie's post then. I thought the OP wanted a D35 so that's what I searched for seeing as how I knew mine was a D35. The hybrid D28/D35 thing lost me.

Was speaking specifically of 4.10 ratio diffs (which never came with the 4.0L on TTB trucks). Many (if not all) '93-'97 4.10 diffs are hybrids.

What motor would that have come with then? The 3 liter? I see what you mean now that I searched it a different way. I originally selected differential which then said "front axle 4.10 ratio". Now that I searched it as "axle assembly front 4wd..." it says gives the option as a D28 only. Good to know, thanks for the lesson 4X4Junkie.

Almost all 2.3L, and some 3.0L.

Additionally if you find a 3.45 ratio one in a '93-'97, it is 100% guaranteed to be a hybrid (3.45 is an invalid ratio for a true D35)

Springs are the same. Use yours if they're in good shape.
Cool, I thought since the D35 was wider thy might have different springs.
I hope it the install goes well

its looks like the drop bracket and the support for the right axle is bent about 10 degrees. should i try to bend it back?

That the one on the rear side of the crossmember?

Yes, bending it back is probably the only option. Check that nothing is cracked afterward.

I guess the lesson here is never loan your truck out, I hate to say that, but I am finding more and more people and family are careless with other peoples stuff

Things are coming along I think I found all the broken/bent stuff.
Since the 28 sway bar is diffrent than the 35, I was going to remove it.
What would be a good shock to run without a sway bar?
