Need advice BADLY!!!!!

From your description I'd guess it DIDN'T hydro lock. I'm thinking it simply flooded just enough to short the sparks and stop running.
For sure go ahead and pull both heads and clean her up real good before putting it back together.
I'm assuming it has never failed to turn over when the starter is engaged.. A locked engine is LOCKED and stops turning.
Big JIm

pull all the connectors apart to dry them out spray them with electrical cleaner and put some dielectric grease when you put them together for future mud holes. I would disconnect the battery and all the grounds and sand them metal to metal just for something to do while everything is drying out.

what are the chances that maybe the ecu went bad?

If it's getting gas and spark, it might be OK. But going to have to clean it up, put it back together and see what happens. Might turn the engine over when/if you pull the heads and pay attention to any pistons that are lower at TDC or if there's any really tough spots (rod bent?).

I've hydrolocked a few briggs and statton 5.0hp motors, and they would keep on, but then again, I never asked much RPM out of it when it happened. And I always removed the plug and got the water out before even thinking about restarting.

your jumping ahead of your self address the wiring first then you can troubleshoot If the engine cranks and the oil is clean drain it out and put fresh oil in to push the any water that might have got in the journals just turning it over with fresh oil will protect the cam and crank from rust but you need to get it started as quick as possible to dry it out completely pull the plugs and squirt a little oil in the cylinders and crank on it to force the water out just dont put too much in. clean and grease all the connectors under the hood first then you should be able to pull the codes also clean the MAF sensor sense you ran while it was wet it could have changed the values of the computer and disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour will reset those values.

another thing, while i was mudding the battery light came on and i thought it was just because the alternator probably got wet but while i was under the truck today i saw a metal strap that goes around my battery cables and is suppose to be bolted to the block. Its on the left side of the engine below the header in the center. Is that a ground and could that be contributing to my engine not starting?

Most definately sand all the grounds down metal to metal batt to engine batt to chassis and engine to chassis and all other grounds if you run it without good grounds you can burn the alternator /regulator up in minutes/seconds also.

Oh yea just went through it with another guy make sure the battery is fully charged also just a weak battery can keep the ignition from getting enough juice pull the battery out and slow charge it for 24 hours and then once you get it started check the charging system the tech library has a good section for checking that out. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/chargetroubleshooting.htm GL

Yep just sanded down and reconnected all grounds, put everything back together and still wont start...i guess its time to bite the bullet and take it to a shop. thanks for all the help guys!
