Ok so my clutch is starting to fail trucks got 95,000 miles on it (I know not alot but I got it stuck one time and my friend thought he would help by trying to be an expert on getting it unstuck and ended up smoking it really bad). So It started off by just kind of making a worn belt sound when it was cold and then going away after it warmed up and stuff, so I was thinking throw out bearing... But now when I start off from stops (unless I ease on it and get it rolling before full release) it will make a horrible sound like if you have an automatic and hold the brakes enough to make it roll forward but the brakes creak but alot more audible. I think it got glazed or something..:dunno:

Anyways I am in need to replace it I guess and I want to put a better clutch in it, ever since I got the truck I haven't trusted it, The clutch has not been strong enough to just stall the truck, it feels like it wants to or is slipping slightly in 4x4 and I am putting strain on it (I figured it would not like moving 31's with the 3.0L but its not just the engine the clutch felt like it slipped too much too.)

So what would be a good heavier duty clutch that should last it a good long time, any company that stands out? I will probably need a clutch and maybe a pressure plate but I think just a clutch would be fine. And for sure I will need a throw out bearing and a slave cylinder as you seem to need to replace them when removing the transmission...

So A good grippy clutch/pressure plate, lasting throwout bearing and slave cylinder... That I can use for mild towing and daily driving a little stiffer would be nice, the clutch seems soft in these things I can stand a harder clutch as long as its not a race clutch lol.

Thanks guys :icon_thumby:

I've heard some people say good things about Centerf**ked clutches. I've seen them have lots of lovely little release issues with the pressure plate. But Centerforce has ususally made it right too.

I've never really had to deal with 3.0 clutches though.

I dunno, I usually just go grab me a NAPA clutch and get going.

I was looking at the Zoom Clutch kit, it comes with everything I need minus the slave cylinder, and it says its got 97% improved torque compacity which is exactly what I am looking for.

Link?

Never head of Zoom.

looks pretty.

I hated my Centerforce clutch, but that was a stock BII set-up. It may work better with the 4.0 clutch.

I've heard good things about Dynapak clutches. Of course there is always Ford Genuine if you want.

I had a '97 4.0 that I put a Centerforce clutch in. I thought it was ok...not as awesome as I thought it would be, but what do you expect from a clutch in a stock daily driver.

My '99 Cobra has a Zoom clutch and throwout bearing in it, only a couple years old (and only a few thousand miles). It seems to hold pretty well and the clutch feels ok, doesn't take too much to depress the pedal. But, I'm already replacing the Zoom TOB, probably this week. The parts just came in. It squeals and annoys me so I'm going to replace it. I've read a few Mustang forums and they all swear by the factory Ford or Ford Racing TOBs so that's what I would recommend at least for the TOB and what I'm switching to in mine.

Can you use a 4.0l clutch and pressure plate on a 3.0l flywheel? I know it will work with the 2.8 and 2.9l motors.

DOH! I didn't notice you were talking about a 3.0...

Dont think they'll swap.

My bad.
