Had my carrier bearing blow today. I have heard it is possible to convert the driveshaft to a single instead of a double shaft. Need some clarification and details about this. I heard it has to be a 1998 or newer ranger. I cant find anyone with one near me with one so i was wondering what other vehicles may have the proper driveshaft(ie. explorer, newer/older rangers). Appreciate any info or input.

Take a look in the tech library, most of your questions can be answered there.

I don't think one from an Explorer would work, the wheelbase is 5-10" shorter than a Supercab Ranger.

You are correct, 98+ Rangers had the one piece driveshaft, find a model similar to yours to take one from, ie, if you have a reg cab shortbox find a reg cab shortbox donor.

I bought mine off ebay, it's from a 2002 (I have a '90 4x4 Supercab). I would check ebay or car-part.com or a local salvage yard.

I have a Alum. one frome a 1999. Were are you? I am in CT.
