2.3L ('02-'11) Mystery vacuum leak or something...

I've actually considered the 2.3 as my next swap for exactly that reason. More power, less weight, takes up less room.

The stupid EGR placement is one thing that's making my think twice about it.
Yep. Considering the same for the 2011 if I can find an engine and trans. I despise the SOHC.

Was going to do the 2.3eb, but the eb is gdi, so **** that.

Also I don't trust them after reading your 1.5 horror story.

The GDI bit wouldn't scare me away one bit. Ford did NAGDI in the Focus for six years, and aside from the DPS6 abomination it was one of the more reliable cars out there. I've only had to replace GDI components once on one of those. Chevy does it too on the 3.6, and there setup is almost identical in execution to Ford's. Chevy uses two teflon seals on the injector tip instead of Ford's one, that's the only real difference.

I am currently wary of any of Ford's 4-cyl engines. I have yet to see serious issues with the 2.3EB, but it is also a pretty new engine. They may have their own fatal flaws that just haven't surfaced yet.

And now it's worse.... after a few rides around town now long term fuel trim at idle spiked to +17.5.

I quit.

Should have pooped in the intake.

I can be out with the dolly at any point.... Just say the word.

Oh. And you can keep the trans. :icon_thumby:

Only reason I dont mess with GDI is the lack of standalone options.

Theres a few folks out there working on adapters and drivers for MS, but until I can adapt MS to it.... Nah.

I've looked over a few of the GDI tuning systems out there. Most are canned tools, so very little room for coding/extensions to be written in like I can with MS and TunerStudio. Not a fan of those style systems.

I can get that. The way the injector driver is in the PCM I can see why there is little aftermarket support for the hardware.

At least with Ford the DI injector drivers have both ends in the PCM, and I seem to recall something about ramping the injector voltage up to something higher than 12V. It's why we can cancel injectors with the scanners now, you can do serious damage by unplugging them with the key on.
