For those who have not seen my build/screen name, I have a 1998 Std cab, stepside bed 2wd With a EFI 5.0 swap from a 98 Explorer, backed by a 4R70W also from the Expo.

I also have a Cobalt SS For economy/reliability and it has been letting me down left and right all summer, so I am looking for a way to get rid of it :(.

Regardless of that, I knew I needed something for winter since the Cobalt has summer tires, and I want it out of my life anyways, and there is no way in high hell I'm going to drive a 2800lb 2wd pickup with 330tq in the snow, so I have been looking for alternative modes of Transportation.

An old co-worker gave me a ring earlier this week and asked me "Hey, You still interested in my truck?" *I asked him to let me know if he was ever going to sell it like a year ago*
I said "Of course, how much?", He replied with an amount cheaper than the price of snow tires for the Cobalt, and I was on my way to pick it up.

its a 2000 Super cab/stepside with the 'off road' package, as well as a bunch of goodies (Front tow hooks, skid plate, Big hitch, bed liner, leather tonneu cover, factory fogs, Black bucket seat with console interior, and happens to have a build date after June 22nd so it already has the perma-locked front hubs, none of that vacuum assist crap)

It needs some nick nacks (Front brake pads, driver side wheel bearing, and air in the tires) but once those are addressed, I think I have a stout little new Daily Driver! What do you all think?

so ur driving a v8 with R14 tires? lol

I had 17 inch 'bullit' mustang rims for it, but:

A) I bought the cobalt, thought I'd be driving it less
B) The mustang rims weren't tall enough and were killing me uptop in the 1/4th
C) I want/need radials to hook, and again, I need a 28 inch tire, not the 26 profile that the mustang rims *Or stockers* are.

So I sold them and tossed the stockers back on to putter around on.

Its kinda fun getting shitty sideways into second and chirping the hell out of third with an auto and a stock motor though :icon_thumby:

Definitely get alota looks with it being bone-stock outside (aside from the drop/level) and the exhaust being so nasty.

You've got the best of both world...yes, I did just write a Miley Cyurs song AND sing it out loud where I am.

but the v8 one is a real sleeper, besides the exhaust note, I wouldn't think anything of it...real cool

I still have avoided any speeding tickets with it, Just got pulled over and yelled at for my exhaust once, but haven't done anything about it :)

Is that a prius on the other side of your green truck?

The Balt is a supercharged one, and yes, thats my step fathers prius. Whenever I START My V-8 ranger I laugh at him because any impact he may make on the environment I destroy instantly.

so proud

If you have any questions replacing those hub assemblies (IE wheel bearings), I got it down pat, on my third set, lol. Looks like for the live axle setup w/ 4 wheel abs are only 120 bucks from NAPA with their usual warranty.

$60 on Ebay, and it took 15 min to tear it apart, so I'm cool with taking the gamble on ordering it on Ebay.

Looks like since I have a late 00, I dont/didn't have any of the vacuum assist spring stuff, EXTREMELY easy. Thank you though, I'll give you a PM if I get stuck with the re-install.

I'm more curious about how much it'd cost and how hard it'd be to give it a mild lift (3 inch body, 4-6 suspension?)

I describe my truck to non car saavy people like this:
"Basically I have the smallest 'american made pickup' (Hush, I know its a Mazda/Ford) you can buy, with one of the strongest small block V-8s ever made jammed into it... It sounds like Thor's hammer striking the heavens when I start it up, and it is so bad for the environment I might as well be clubbing baby seals..."
