PEICE OF %)!(@)#*$^%#!@)*I)(*^%&*SH!> Truck!

You're probably buying remanufactured starters from AutoZone/Advance/Oreilly's, aren't you?

O' Reilly's has a lifetime warrentee on their starters, just gotta keep the receipt.

I have a lifetime starter but they keep goin out, just gettin tired of changing them!

I think you should rename this is thread "My Autozone/Advance/Oreilly's starter is a piece of s*** and it's not my trucks fault that I installed crappy parts." :icon_thumby:

It's your fault for turning off the engine. It's cheaper to leave it running all the time than to keep buying starters.

have you cut and spliced the wire that has the slip on connector yet? ford had a tsb on that because corrosion gets up in the connector and travels up the wire and causes too much resistance to engage the starter. most reman starters have the replacement wire with shrink tube included but many people dont follow the instructions and bring me back a perfectly good starter and want a new one. hopefully this information helps someone in the future.

Buy Motorcraft parts, my '96 has 186,000 miles and has not gone out yet. (knocks on wood) The cheaper remanufactured ones never seem to last long no matter what the part.

I bought a reman starter from CTC and it is still like new...before that I had one from the j/y that conveniently died while I was in the j/y parking lot...but I think at least one of those could have been avoided if I regularly checked the ground wire...because I think that was all that was wrong...they vibrate loose...

They're not too hard to change, but four in two years does seem a bit high...I'd go with a different parts place or follow the instructions carefully as suggested...if there is something there to resist corrosion then the starter is one place it should be used...they get almost direct road spray on my vehicle...

83 with original starter.:icon_thumby:

Well aparently his Motorcraft starter didn't last either or it would still be on the truck...

I think I got my rebuilt one at Carquest, it has probably been 7 or 8 years ago, it still works fine (and gets a terrible workout trying to coax the engine to life)

Can't just tap the key lightly and have it fire off?

Parts houses are able to sell starters cheaper than the competition by eliminating the quality control/testing department. They figure many purchasers will be more interested in low price than in being frustrated with weeding out the 5% or so starters that are DOA after rebuilding.

Over 40 years ago I installed my first auto part and it was bad....and it was a starter. Took it back where I bought it and the guy threw it into a pile and gave my another like he did this all day long.:icon_cheers:
