My motor swap

i just found that the crankshaft is marked

2M which is a 1968-81 302-ci

It's got cast pistons and as you pointed out in the RPS thread a 302 crank. So you've definately got a 302. Looks nice and clean too. Should be ready to run as is.

hmmm. good deal then man!

cast pistons? bad or ok?

and ok now for mounts. i know the mustang mounts, but i want to mount it low. not all the way down, but pretty low. what is the vert mount?

85 -93 mustang convertable mounts.switch them from right to left.
look in the tech section for all the details.

thanks, ill look at it now

and i also tried to read some of this thing

it said Oklahoma something authorized remanufacturers. 302

Looks like it has been rebuilt. It's been bored .03 over and the main and rod journals are both turned down .01
Thats how i see it anyway.

Nothing wrong with cast pistons. Unless you're gonna spray it, even then they'll hold up some time before you see a problem. Your tag tells me you've got a Fred Jones reman 302. They were Ford's authorized remanufacturer of motors and other parts for years. Their dealership is(or still was last time I was up there) downtown off I-40. Right next to the cotton oil mill.

why did u think your head gaskets are leaking?

well before i turned the motor over to take the oil pan off, it was leaking oil from the drivers side head, and besides, i can put them back on easily and torque them down correctly. isnt it good to make sure the gaskets are good?

what can i clean all this with? carb cleaner? starter fluid?

water jackets look pretty rough.
this my opinion take it for what its worth.you have it down this far,go ahead and finish pulling it down, have the block dipped and get cam bearings installed, get a kit and rebuild it.
its money in the bank.

Use spray carb cleaner for the insides. The head to deck surfaces will need a stiff wire wheel on a drill to get the gasket residue off. Once that's all off, turn the block till the cylinders are facing down and flush the stuff that got into the bores and pistons with more spray carb cleaner. Then water. Blow dry it all. You'll need a case of cleaner to do all this. You may want to send the heads to a machineshop and have a valve job done to insure the valves will seat properly. The outside of the block can be cleaned with oven cleaner and water to rinse. Just be careful to not get that stuff anywhere near the pistons or in the crankcase.

Yes, that is what the tag had on it also.

just making sure.
now i gotta buy the gaskets tomorrow when i get off, put it all back together, and hopefully have it primed saturday, and paint it sunday.
