My motor swap

That is a low oil sensor. Yes you can just plug it. Your dipstick in the timing cover is not going to work with a rear sump oil pan.

ok this is going to make me sound stupid probably, but im gonna ask anyway.

could i change my timing cover? to make this pan work?
i guess ill get that pickup from you... do you take paypal?

well guys this whole swap has me worried, and im on edge about even trying it. theres alot into it that doesnt get talked about too much. fans, mounts, blower box, pulleys, clearance... etc. but i really want it in the truck, but theres still alot that i have to order and get.

anyone have a lo-rise intake theyd like to get rid of? dont matter what brand...

well im going to run a c4 automatic. and i think its a c5 thats in the truck rigth now, but i cant find a number or id tag on it anywhere... how many linkages go to the automatics?

As long as your tranny you took out is a 3 speed then you will be able to use a c-4 tranny without any problems. Shifter wise anyway.

You have one shifter cable and one detent cable. The shifter cable goes to your shifter. The detent cable goes to your carb.

What pan are your referring to?

Have you got anyone to help you? You should be able to do it but if you are having any doubts, now would be the time to stop. Before you get it tore down.

You should be able to find a intake relatively easy.

well thank you. now i have a good idea on how to make the shifter work now.

i have a dual sump fox body pan, but the actual "sump" i guess is in the back, and my oil dip stick goes through the timing cover, so i have to get a different pan which ticks me off. but o well... ill deal with that later on

yea i got some guys thatll help me. im not giving up, it takes alot for me to give up, i just dont want my truck to be down for months you know? i mean i do alot to my truck so that when i drive it, its fun and plus knowing that i built it makes it that much better.

yea i think i found one, a guy on rps has an edelbrock intake, it measure and inch and a half lower than mine. but im going to concentrate on getting this thing running on its own first.

and what do you think about an electric pusher? and also im thinking of buying the street avenger 570? too much? too little? i know since i dont know exactly what cam is in it its hard to say. but i really want to learn about motors and stuff. when i get this in, i want to pull a 302 from a salvage yard and do a FULL rebuild myself...

thanks man

Are you taking out the rad. support? If not you did'nt need to take that other stuff off. IMO.

That support will come out if you drill out the spot welds, not hard at all.

I think he just pulled it to protect it while he is working on the truck.

well i was really doing it to pull everything off so id have ALOT of room. but to protect it also. i forgot that it was spot welded.

well i guess i can leave the core support in. i just need to figure out where to start and how to go about pulling this motor. i guess the 302 and tranny will go in with the support in

It will. Do you have a good engine hoist?

yes. amazingly one of my friends had one, so i just borrowed it.

well now im off to start pulling some motor stuff. i guess ill start with the radiator, condenser, and stuff? work my way back?

ok well i started by taking out that big OLE ugly smog box thing. you wanna talk about some vaccum lines? good god! i spent an hour taking out vaccum lines

302038.jpg

heres a few

302039.jpg

is this the transmission cooler? should i reuse this for the v8? or would the lines go to my new 4.0 radiator?

302040.jpg

now i removed the ac accumulator i guess, took off a few other lines, these lines are STUCK STUCK! vaccum, heater hoses, smog hoses, any freakin hose is tight! i have busted all of my knuckles just taking hoses off

302041.jpg

yay the fan blade is off! lol
are ya'll reusing those top brackets for the radiator?

CRAPPPP!!!!!!!!!

302045.jpg

JK it fits perfect! so whats this mean? does this help on know what kind of tranny it is?

302044.jpg

ok well i have the batter ground to the block off, power steering undone, heater hoses off, radiator out, starter wire off, vaccum off, electric wires.

now i have to unbolt the 2 tranny nuts, the 2 engine mounts, and the freakin exhaust! how do yall get these off? i was thinking about just cutting it.

anything else that i missed? i wanna see if theres something else i need to undo before i try and lift it

anyone?

What carb did you go with. I use the auto lite 2 barrel that's on it. It has to be the best off road carb ever built. The damn thing will run on it's side. For a slammed truck I guess that's not so important.

The vacuum lines? Pull them all, You don't need them. On the new engine all you need is 1 for the carb., 1 for the brakes, 1 for the distributor and one to the tranny. The rest you can plug. Make sure you plug them or it will run like poo.

Let me know about the rest of the stuff in your/my pm.
